Such a wonderful review from a lovely client 🤩🤩🤩

🐎 “Lara has been treating my horse regularly for the past year, and I’ve seen a marked improvement in both his performance and his movement. He’s an older boy with joint /hind suspensory and stiffness issues, and Lara’s knowledge and skill have made a real difference. She works alongside our vets to keep him comfortable, mobile, and able to continue some ridden work.
She is incredibly patient and takes a great deal of care to really get to know each horse as an individual. I especially appreciate how clearly she explains and demonstrates what she’s doing, so we can continue the exercises between sessions.
She’s always responsive to messages and wonderfully flexible — even offering weekend appointments when needed. I wouldn’t hesitate to highly recommend her! “

We all know horses struggle more with stiffness in the winter, but why?🤔

💪Much like us humans, horses muscles tighten in the winter. This creates more pressure on joints and also causes muscle pain!

🦴Also, the synovial fluid in the joint thickens with cold weather. This makes it harder for the joint to move, which is why we see stiffness in our horses gaits.

Combine this with nearly 24/7 stabling due to ground conditons… and they get stiff quite quickly, like us sitting in a cold room❄️❄️

Clipped or older horses can feel these effects anywhere below 5 degrees 🥶 but this does vary horse to horse!

To help prevent stiffness in your horses this time of year, simply take them for a wonder! A 10-20 minute active walk when you have limited turnout and aren’t able to ride can make the world of difference🐎

Conditions are set to be chilly again in the coming weeks, lets keep on top of joint health and horse comfort🤩

Pic of me trying not to fall over when we had snow❄️❄️❄️ treating your beautiful horses and ponies in this weather (-6!!!) was certainly a challenge, but not enough to make me wish to do anything else!

Why do I spend so much time thinking about muscle? 🤔

🐎 Did you know that up to 45% of your horses body weight is muscle?

In the industry, we spend a LOT of time looking at the horses limbs. But in actual fact, the limbs are driven by the bodys muscle mass. From the knee down, they don’t have any muscle at all!

💪MUSCLE is the real engine in our horses. Limbs are, in simple terms, the stay apparatus.

🤔🤔🤔 In an interesting podcast by Audrey DeClue, Equine Sports Medicine Veterinarian, he outright stated
- ‘muscle tension is the enemy’.

Furthermore, muscle tension creates mental tension, and vice versa. A very interesting point!

🐎 If there is tension in a muscle, the whole system begins functioning in ‘survival mode’. You get gait abnormalities, weakness, and even lameness - all due to compensations. Other muscles, tendons, ligaments and bone will ‘pick up the slack’, which causes injuries.

Soft tissue manipulation helps to fight tension right at the source. Methods I use and exercises I prescribe can keep your horses moving freely and functioning correctly!

This is important not only in sport horses or happy hackers, but also in our newly backed youngsters (think of when you first started the gym or mucking out!) or retired oldies - they have years of exercise behind them and still require some maintenance!

Something as simple as poor posture could be causing discomfort and compensatory issues in your horses - fixing this early on helps them have a long, happy and comfortable career.

I have availability for new clients beginning 23rd February. Feel free to pop me a message to discuss how I can help your horse🐎🫶🏻 07484 703737.
