We are delighted to still offer direct claims for our clients here at Isle. However, we do require full co-operation in order to continue providing this service. Direct claims are offered at the discretion of the Practice upon reflection of account status. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘦𝘨𝘦, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵.

Whether a direct or indirect claim, it is important that owners understand their insurance policy before making a claim, including exclusions and claim form requirements, plus the claim process with us.

You must notify our admin team within 𝟑 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 of every visit or medication request and comply with our account terms and conditions. Without the above notification, your claims will be classified as indirect (payable by client). If your claim has been accepted by your insurance company, we ask that you contact your insurance company regularly, at least weekly, to check on the progress of your claim.

If you need any support or guidance with your insurance policy, please contact the clinic on 01353 658241 to speak to a knowledgeable member of our team.

Following the closure of the Farm Department at Cambridge Vet School, we recognise how important it is for farmers and livestock owners to have access to reliable veterinary care and support.

To help meet this need, we have made the decision to expand our livestock catchment area south of Cambridge, allowing us to support more farms and provide access to our farm animal veterinary services. Please refer to the attached image for our new catchment area.

Regular worm egg counting can help you make informed decisions about when worming treatment is actually needed, reducing unnecessary use of wormers and helping protect your horse’s health. By only treating when necessary, you will help reduce the development of anthelmintic resistance, ensuring worming treatments remain effective for longer.

🔬 Use our in-house worm egg counting service and receive personalised guidance from our dedicated team on the right approach for your horse.

𝐌𝐔𝐃 𝐅𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 🐴

Mud fever (also known as pastern dermatitis) is a non-contagious skin infection affecting the lower limbs in horses. This is caused by bacteria entering through a break in the skin and is typically characterised by ‘cracked heels’ and scabs in the region of the fetlock and pastern.

Treatment often involves cleansing the area with diluted antimicrobial solution to remove the mud fever scabs and drying thoroughly before applying a thin layer of antibacterial cream.

It is advised in muddy conditions not to wash legs 💦 however if this is the case, the skin and feathers should be dried thoroughly. The use of abrasive brushes or materials when cleaning should be avoided as these cause breaks in the skin and allow bacteria to enter and further contribute to the condition. Application of barrier creams for susceptible or prone horses is often beneficial in the prevention of mud fever.

If you feel your horses mud fever is not improving, please speak to one of our vets for further advice on 01353 658241 (option 2) 📞

𝐄𝐐𝐔𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐌𝐄𝐋𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐌𝐀𝐒 🐴 WARNING: graphic content 💉

Meet Poser, a handsome grey gelding who was examined yesterday after developing a large melanoma mass beneath his tail. To manage these we usually surgically excise them; in this case, our Vet Sally, chose to use our surgical class 4 laser.

Equine melanomas are skin tumours caused by a disturbance and overproduction of melanin – a black pigment. They are usually benign and slow-growing but can become malignant. Dark, firm nodules are usually clustered under the tail, around the a**s and behind the jaw. Grey horses are overwhelmingly prone to melanomas, with around 80% of grey horses over 15 getting at least one melanoma in their lives.

We are sure that he will be more comfortable now and we're wishing Poser a speedy recovery at home! 🤞🐴
