Cùmath Pet Surgeons, Aberdeenshire’s new independent veterinary referral practice.

🐾 𝗥𝘂𝗳𝗳’𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 🐾

After a nasty road traffic accident, Ruff came to us with a severe injury to his tarsus and wounds to his leg. From the very beginning, his recovery was going to be a long one — requiring surgery, careful wound management, strict rest, regular bandage changes, physiotherapy, and months of close monitoring.

Through it all, Ruff was an incredibly good patient, and his owner was truly devoted every step of the way. Their commitment to his care, from managing bandages and exercise restriction to attending follow-up appointments and supporting his rehabilitation at home, made such an important difference to his progress.

We’re so pleased to share that Ruff has gone on to make a wonderful recovery. He is now back to enjoying life and even getting his beach walks again — something that felt a long way off in those early days.

Cases like Ruff’s remind us just how much can be achieved with patience, teamwork, and a very dedicated owner by a dog’s side.

Overnight care at Cùmath is delivered seamlessly by our own team. Our skilled Night Nurses provide consistent, focused care throughout the night, ensuring every patient feels safe, supported and closely monitored.

With no other admissions overnight, our patients are truly at the centre of everything we do.

They’re cuddled, comforted, monitored, their pain carefully managed, given their meals (and treats!), plenty of fresh water, and offered the precious downtime they need to rest and recover just as they would at home

Thanks to our detailed pre‑admission forms, we can tailor every overnight stay to each pet’s routine and comforts - helping them feel safe, settled and loved.

A little glimpse behind the scenes at Cùmath Pet Surgeons...

Did you know that we use VetCheck on our iPads and PCs to complete our hospital care plans, patient treatments, anesthetic monitoring and consent forms?

Our records are updated live, allowing different members of the team to access, review, and update patient observations from anywhere in the practice. This helps us share information quickly, support one another, and ensure our patients receive attentive, high-quality care throughout their stay.

And while we'll always have a soft spot for traditional paperwork, we are using less paper and we're certainly not missing the challenge of trying to interpret each other's handwriting!

"𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗺𝘆'𝘀 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆

Chammy was referred as an emergency following a severe injury to her chest sustained after running into a tree.

Following advanced imaging and surgery, one badly damaged lung lobe had to be removed. Chammy then spent time in hospital receiving intensive care and close monitoring. Thanks to the dedication of our team, she made an incredible recovery and was soon well enough to head home and continue her journey back to full strength.

Now look at her! ❤️

We're delighted to see Chammy back enjoying life and doing what dogs do best... running around with plenty of energy despite having one less lung lobe!

We hope there are no more run-ins with trees for Chammy in the future!"

A few of the Cùmath team took part in the Banchory Beast today! 💪🐾

Nothing says team bonding quite like voluntarily running up hills, tackling obstacles and charging through mud together.
We also helped one of our team members celebrate a special birthday, and it was great to bump into some familiar faces from Ashgrove Veterinary Centre and donviewvets along the way.

We're incredibly proud of one of our amazing night nurses, Megan, who is taking on the London Marathon to raise money for Miscarriage UK.
