Why Hand-Stripping Isn’t “Cheap”
I’ve had a few questions recently from people wanting hand-stripping for their Cocker Spaniels and, let’s be honest, expecting a bargain… but hand-stripping isn’t a quick wash-and-trim—it’s a skilled craft.
Here’s the deal:
It takes time. To get a dog looking like my competition dogs, every coat needs careful attention. This isn’t something rushed—each dog is worked on carefully to remove dead hair and keep the coat healthy and comfortable. It also takes a regular grooming schedule, not longer than 6 weeks maximum, not when the dog starts to look like a yetti.. it has to be maintained.
It’s physically demanding. Both for me and your dog! Stripping a full coat properly takes stamina, patience, and precision.
It requires regular maintenance. You can’t bring a matted, overgrown coat and expect miracles. Hand-stripping works best when your dog is cared for in between appointments.
It costs money… because it’s worth it. You’re paying for skill, experience, and the time it takes to bring out the best in your dog’s coat—not just a quick tidy-up. You're paying for the best products and equipment.
The work carried out is provided by the current Groom Team England Spaniel & Setter Team Member. Your dog is in expert hands, with knowledge from years of competitive grooming at the top level.
If you want your Cocker looking and feeling its best, hand-stripping is an investment in your dog’s health, comfort, and show-ready style. And trust me, it’s so worth it!
