Charlie the handsome Golden Boy 🐶 🌟

We’ve been working on Charlie’s recall as he was lacking impulse control when it came to water and birds. His listening ears would be turned off and he’d enter into a very chaotic mindset then disappear off up the river after birds, sometimes way out of sight!

Last time we were at this exact location, he was in fact away down the river out of sight. Having the time of his life? Likely yes, but so unsafe and getting him back was difficult.

So what are we doing about it? Step one was go completely back to basics on recall training. So we refined the following commands:

🐾 “Come”- A full recall, right to me so I can touch the collar without any silly ‘keep away’ games.

🐾 “This way”- A change of direction, the dog should believe that if they don’t follow then you’re gone.

🐾 “Far enough”- Don’t go any further or circle back.

What we are not doing is stopping him from enjoying his one true love- the water 💧 It’s a case of taking back control and allowing him to enjoy water still but with a calmer mindset and better impulse control.

As you can see, Charlie is responding very well to going back to basics. He’s such a quick learner! 💛

More Charlie updates and the rest of the training process will be shared soon 🥰

When the biggest, strongest and clumsiest dogs on your walk decide to get zoomies and play together and you’re just trying not to have your legs taken out from under you🤣 😬

I really do enjoy how pretty everything starts to look at this time of year, especially in the woods 🌲 ☀️

Add dogs into the pretty scenery and it’s my idea of perfect 🙌 😆
