💛 A little August gratitude from Sitting Kitty 💛

August has been busy. Really busy. 🐈‍⬛🐈🐈‍⬛

Before I open the doors at Bentley & Bear in the morning, I’m out caring for cats. When I finish grooming for the day, I’m back out again — feeding, refreshing water, cleaning litter trays, administering care where needed and, of course, providing plenty of company, reassurance and chin scritches.

Often that’s multiple cats, across several households, twice a day.

There haven’t been any days off this August. No lie-ins, very little time with my partner and, if I’m not working, I’m generally eating or sleeping! 😹

And I’m not saying that for sympathy — I chose this, and I genuinely love caring for your cats. 💛

But I thought it was worth sharing a little glimpse behind the scenes, because pet sitting can look deceptively simple from the outside. Every booking is a commitment to be there, morning and evening, whatever else my day holds.

So this is really a thank you.

Thank you for trusting me with your cats, your homes and all their wonderfully individual little routines. Thank you for recommending Sitting Kitty, coming back to me and allowing me to care for some of the same cats year after year.

August has been exhausting, slightly bonkers and fuelled by coffee and it’s not over yet — but it has also been a month filled with cats I absolutely adore. 🐾💛

I’m incredibly grateful.

🐾 This morning’s Sitting Kitty countdown…

7 cats fed — with 7 portions of dry food served
6 chin scritches, offered on their terms
5 litter boxes emptied — and 5 wet food sachets served
4 homes visited
3 portions of Dreamies dispensed
2 cats had their claws clipped
1 cat gently combed out

Plus a whopping 19 bowls washed and Ambient Chill playing softly on the radios, helping to maintain a calm, predictable environment. 🎶🐈‍⬛

Cat sitting is about so much more than replenishing food and emptying litter trays. It’s enrichment, observing behaviour, respecting each cat’s choices and providing individual care in the place they feel safest — their own home.

And this evening, I’ll do it all over again! 💜🐾

This gorgeous little lady is Kitzy. 🩷🐾

Unlike her older and bolder housemate Mitzi, Kitzy is still very young and doesn’t venture outside just yet. She’s happiest exploring the safety of home, playing, snoozing and keeping a close eye on everything going on around her.

It’s always lovely getting to know kittens and young cats as their personalities start to shine through. Kitzy is full of curiosity, charm and all the sweetness you’d expect from a youngster discovering the world at her own pace.

For cats like Kitzy, staying in their familiar surroundings while their humans are away helps keep everything calm, comfortable and reassuring. 🏡💕

I love being able to provide that reassurance, making sure they have plenty of care, attention and company until their family returns home.

As our cats get older, having a trusted cat sitter becomes about so much more than feeding and litter trays.

Senior cats often thrive on routine and familiarity. Changes can feel more significant to them, and they may need a little extra observation, patience and understanding. Small changes in appetite, mobility, grooming habits or behaviour can sometimes tell us a lot about how they’re feeling.

Because I know Cleo well, I know what is normal for her. I know her routines, her favourite spots and how she likes to spend her day. That continuity can be incredibly reassuring for both cats and their humans when they’re away.

For Cleo, staying in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by everything familiar, is often the kindest option of all. 🏡💕

Growing old is a privilege, and caring for our senior cats with kindness, dignity and respect is something very close to my heart.
