We believe that for dogs to be truly healthy, inside and out, they should be provided appropriate mental and physical stimulation, and get to spend time in nature with their own kind. We seek to provide a service where dogs are allowed to express their primal selves. Our goal is to educate dog owners to better understand the true nature of their dog, and to embrace both its strengths and weaknesses in order to achieve training success. We believe that when dogs and human connect on a deep and meaningful level, and learn how to communicate clearly and without hinder, there are few limits to what can be achieved. Our Doggie Day Trips are a combined Dog Walking and Day Care service where your four-legged friend gets to spend the day in nature. We offer private in-home consultations around Scotland to help you with your dog's behaviour problems.

We had a long break from puppy training - there were so many dogs who needed our help who were really struggling. The last few years we picked up some of it again to create a new video archive. It is finally finished and Iโ€™m so excited for our first owners to work through it!

There are over 50 videos where we show the entire process of teaching our own puppies a behaviour, as well as clips from sessions with clients and their dogs where we show and explain what we are doing.

The sections are:

- Preparing for your new puppy (Puppy proofing your home, Raising a young dog)
- Socialisation (people, dogs, environment)
- Vet visits, Grooming and Handling
- Playing with your puppy (pre-teething, end of teething, after teething, moving into adulthood)
- Teaching your puppy a recall (the first recalls, recall with older puppies)
- Heeling, Loose Leash Walking and Other Obedience Behaviours
- Your adolescent dog (behaviours indoors, behaviours on the walk, when do I stop rewarding my dog?)

As requested by our puppy owners, we have also created a checklist to keep you on track with your puppyโ€™s socialisation and training. This is now available alongside our usual puppy handbook.

Currently, our online puppy material is only available for our in person clients, but we may make it accessible later this year.

At the start of the year one of our day care clients approached me to ask if I would help them train an assistance dog. I was very forthcoming with that it is out of my ball park and not something I have experience with. Nonetheless, they wanted to work with someone they already had a relationship with and I made sure I had a network of people I could ask questions if we ran into issues.

We were very picky with selecting breed, breeder and individual dog, and so far Rudi has been everything we need him to be. ๐Ÿ–ค

Most of the tasks we are training him to do are in close proximity to and oriented towards his handler. However, he also needs to learn to work independently, focused away from her. One such task is EXIT - finding the way out of a busy indoor space.

He has just turned 5 months, and is doing so well. Here is one of the updates I was sent this week. At this age, we want his super motivated and confident, pulling hard into the harness to move his handler towards the exit, past people and dogs. When he is a little older and has more experience, it wonโ€™t be difficult to slow that pace down.

We started by teaching him to drag in to search for a clam toy with food that he saw us place outside. Straight lines first, then adding distance, then adding corners, then doing blind searches (he never saw the toy or person before we cued him to do the task). We used shops that had several entrances to make sure the person placing the toy could use a different route to put it outside, ruling out that he wasnโ€™t just tracking a family memberโ€™s scent trail. Super proud of the work they have put in! These sessions are always a highlight for me, very very fun to teach this great team!
