NEW WEBINAR: From Itch to Insight
Is your Romanian rescue dog struggling to settle in their new home?
Or are you trying to handle behaviour challenges that just won't fully resolve?
Have you considered that their itching, licking, or chewing might actually be behind these problems?
Our overseas rescue dogs have unique backgrounds, so when a former street dog arrives in their new home, helping them settle in, decompress, and relax is really important. To do this effectively, we must look at the whole picture supporting them from an emotional health, behavioural, and physical wellbeing point of view.
An unknown history, the stress of an enormous journey, and a massive change of environment can predispose these amazing dogs to all sorts of ‘skin’ challenges. You might notice constant licking, scratching, chewing, nibbling, rubbing, or ongoing problems with their ears, eyes, and a**l glands.
Sometimes these physical issues are easy to spot.
Other times, they grumble away quietly unnoticed, presenting themselves as behavioural challenges such as reactivity, separation stress, fear, and anxiety. These behaviours are very often symptoms of our dogs being in physical discomfort.
Hidden pain has a huge impact on your dog's emotional wellbeing, their ability to settle into a new life, or their capacity to overcome behaviour challenges.
There is also the hurdle of your rescue dog not liking the vets, not being comfortable being touched yet, or simply not being ready to face the outside world.
What looks like typical itching isn’t always just a surface skin issue; it can be a symptom of something much deeper.
If you want to understand what is really going on beneath the surface, my brilliant colleagues at Canine Thinking are running a practical, 90-minute webinar on Monday 15th June called From Itch to Insight.
This webinar will guide you through:
🐾 What to look for: Identifying the subtle signs that go way beyond the obvious physical symptoms.
🐾 At-home steps: Practical things you can start doing in your own home to get to the bottom of what is happening.
🐾 Essential observations: Exactly what to track and film so you can present clear evidence to your vet, avoiding unnecessary appointments and targeting their approach.
🐾 Understanding the root causes: Learning about the different internal and external triggers of what looks like 'itching'.
🐾Navigating treatments: Demystifying the most common tests and treatments your vet might suggest, so you know exactly what questions to ask—especially for dogs who need extra-special care to cope with veterinary visits.
Lisa Webb, Clinical Behaviourist, will be using real case studies of dogs to show you exactly what this looks like in practice, giving you the confidence you need to help your dog feel comfortable in their own skin.
I have attended a number of Canine Thinking webinars myself and also work alongside Lisa on some of her behaviour cases. You will be absolutely blown away by what you learn, and you'll come away with immediate, practical ideas to help your dog.
