Every dog communicates, we just need to learn to listen.

Every dog tells us how they’re feeling.
Some race through the gate, ready for adventure.
Some take a moment to watch before joining in.
Some head straight to their best friend.
Others find a quiet spot, have a sniff, take a breath and settle into their day.

Communicating clearly what feels right for them, right now

At Barklay Park, we don’t believe every dog should have the same day.

We believe every dog deserves the day they need.

That means taking the time to understand their body language, their confidence, their friendships and their individual personality.

Sometimes they need adventure.
Sometimes they need friendship.
Sometimes they need rest.

When we learn to listen, dogs tell us everything we need to know.

That’s why, as a daycare, we are always calm, safe and quiet ❤️🐾

What better way to cheer up a driech Wednesday afternoon than a full two minutes of dog photos? 🥰🐾

We’re halfway through the week and we’re having a wonderful time with your dogs, supporting them in their structured day at Barklay Park. With a mix of socialising, rest and mental stimulation, the dogs are happy, calm and content.

If you’re looking for a day care for your dog that prioritises safe, calm and quiet days over unnecessary chaos, drop us a line to find out about our available spaces.

**The Humans Behind Barklay Park ❤️**

These people are Barklay Park.

They’re the people who know your dog’s best friend, their favourite field and exactly when they’ve had enough for the day.

They know who needs encouraged to join in, who needs reminded to calm their jets, who needs a little extra confidence and who would happily spend six hours laying in the paddling pool.

They’re dog listeners, drivers, peacekeepers, playmates, poo pickers, cuddle providers and professional spotters of the tiniest change in behaviour.

They work in rain, wind, mud and occasionally sunshine. They know all the dogs as individuals and care enormously about getting it right for every single one of them.

We think they’re a pretty brilliant bunch. ❤️

THE BALL THROWER 🎾

A huge bugbear of mine.

We’ve all seen that dog.

Tongue hanging out. White spit around its mouth. Completely wiped out. Eyes on stalks. Yet still staring desperately at the ball waiting for you to throw it again.

That’s not a dog simply “loving his ball”. He’s highly aroused, completely fixated and caught in a repetitive cycle that we’ve helped create.

We throw. He chases. He brings it back. We throw again. And again. And again.

The dog learns that this is the game we want to play and becomes incredibly driven to keep it going long after his body could really do with stopping.

Meanwhile he’s repeatedly sprinting, twisting, braking and turning at speed, often completely oblivious to what his body is telling him.

I’m not anti-ball. Throw it occasionally.
And when your dog is exhausted but still demanding *just one more throw*, don’t mistake that intensity for enjoyment.

Sometimes the kindest thing we can do is say **that’s enough**.

**Leave the ball thrower at home — or even better, put it in the bin. 🎾🗑️**
