Yesterday marked the first day of final year for our veterinary students! Amy, Cat and Joe got off to a great start with a visit to 25yo gelding Louis, owned by renowned local vet Sue Arthur, with able assistance from Harriet Bowes-Lyon.
The whole of year 5 at vet school is based on real-life practical cases and we are very grateful when clients let us take a little extra time to allow the students to gain invaluable knowledge and clinical skills during their consultations. Our new graduates are well respected in the veterinary profession and the hands-on experience gained on clinical rotations contributes enormously to this reputation. Thank you!

We were incredibly saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Neil Frame MRCVS, of Frame and Swift vets in Penrith. Neil was a graduate of Edinburgh Vet School in 1978 and went on to become an Honorary Clinical Fellow of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies and an External Examiner with us. In latter years, he has worked mainly with horses and farm animals and he was greatly respected for his exceptional veterinary skills. As one of our regular referring vets, we had the pleasure of speaking with him often. Countless students and less experienced vets have benefited for his calm and pragmatic approach. Neil's loss obviously will be felt most by his family, friends, colleagues and clients, but multitudes who had contact with him will miss the positivity and pragmatism that he brought to all of his endeavours.

Neil will be sorely missed in our community and our thoughts are very much with his family at this time.

It is with immense sadness that we let all our friends and clients know that Neil Frame died suddenly this weekend. Neil was a husband, father, grandfather, friend and immensely dedicated vet. His passion for veterinary care was an inspiration to our team and was instrumental in the progression of our practice from premises in Angel Lane in 1979 to our current building. Neil always had his patient’s welfare at the forefront of his mind and was well known for forthright communication with owners when the recovery of his patients depended on it. He would be absolutely adamant that the vet work must continue, so we are open as usual but please understand if emotions are showing. Our thoughts are with Neil’s family. He will be greatly missed by us all.

What a marvellous day for Penicuik Riding of the Marches! Practice vet Louise was on duty but, happily, not required - all were 'safe oot, safe in'! Well done to all of the riders who took part and thanks to the town of Penicuik for coming out to cheer them back up the High Street!

Today was the last day of clinical rotations for our final year students! It's a big day for them: most have dreamed of being vets since childhood, beaten the odds to be offered a place at vet school, studied hefty scientific concepts, learned how to handle unfamiliar species, passed dozens of exams and practicals, and, most importantly, developed their abilities to care for their patients, clients and colleagues. We couldn't be more proud as they leave the University of Edinburgh to take their considerable skills to the world.
A MASSIVE thank you goes out to each and every one of our equine clients who have made this possible by welcoming our students and giving them the time and space to find their confidence. We cannot overstate how appreciative we are. You may, one day, reap the rewards when one of our graduates helps to look after the horses in your future.
For now, it's goodbye from Crea, Bella, Hugh, Libby, Lara, Charlotte, Hattie, Jack, Scarlett, Benjy, James and Ellie! We wish you all good luck!

Horatio got his own kilt for the wedding of the year, Laura and Paul! Laura Butcher, who we have known since she did school work experience with us, went on to study veterinary medicine here and now works in small animal emergency and critical care for ICR vets. Horatio was the guest of honour at the celebrations and possibly the most handsome! Obviously he had to sample the bouquet! Massive congratulations to Laura and Paul! 🎉❤️🥰👏🐴

A rare shot of our lovely equine nurses together - it's not the full team but it's not often they stop long enough to get a good picture of them together. This month is Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month too so we thought we'd share this lovely team shot! We're extremely lucky to have a fantastic bunch of nurses here at the hospital & practice, and quite frankly we'd be lost without them all! Thanks for all you do for our team, patients and owners!

As Fran's due date approaches she's handed her truck keys to Alice to pick up work on the road for the next wee while. She's not very good at slowing down though and has already volunteered her services on the Reception team..there's no stopping her!

And we welcome the lovely Alice, an experienced ambulatory vet, who has joined the DVEP team for the next 12 weeks to cover our busiest summer months. Please give her a warm welcome if you see her out at your yard!
