I wrote last time that there might be very different reasons for the dog 🐕 to growl.
He might:
👉 protect his toy / food / house / favourite place / himself
👉 be afraid of you / another human / another dog
👉 not want to be touched or approached
and probably some other things.

But there are some common points, no matter the reason for your dog’s growling:
👉 your four-pawed friend 🐕 intend to avoid conflict;
👉 growling means that he chose communication over aggression;
👉 he does not feel comfortable in the current situation;
👉 He asks you (or another human or dog) to give him some more space, go away, leave him alone, ✋ stop doing whatever you are doing at this moment.

🌟 The best thing you can do is follow your friend’s 🐕 request and think 🤔 what he was afraid of or disliked so much and why.

This is what a real friend would do.

🤦‍♀️ In my opinion, the sh*tiest 💩 possible option is to put the dog’s poo 🐕 💩 in the plastic bag and leave it in the forest🌲🌲🌳🌲🌳🌳

👉 by leaving the poo 💩 in the forest 🌳🌲in the plastic bag, you give it a longer life than your own!
👉 if you leave the poo 💩 on the ground without the plastic bag, mother nature will get rid of it
👉 if you feel you should do sth so nobody steps in it, but for some reason, you don’t want to throw it into the bin, find a stick and move the poo 💩 out of the path. The best would be to push it into the bushes; nobody enters there anyway.

A few days ago (sorry for the delay), l started a very long topic: people touching a dog 🐕🐩
I already wrote ✍️that dogs don’t like being hugged 🫂 or immobilised in any other way. It is scary 🙀

Today, l would like to ask why people give themselves the right to touch the dogs they just met??? 🤦‍♀️
Why do people believe this is the best way to make the dog 🐕 like them? Or maybe they don’t even think about the dog and pet him for their own pleasure? 🤔
I really don’t know the answer to this question 🤷‍♀️

Let’s not forget that, in many ways, we are very similar to our four-pawed friends ❤️

If you would not enjoy sth, find a very good reason why you believe the dog will like it. “It is a dog” or “fogs like it” is not a correct answer.

Imagine meeting a huge guy who hugs you and pats your head. Would you enjoy it?
Imagine that your friends adopted a 2-year-old girl. You come to meet her. Would you hug her or put her on your lap without taking care if she wants that? I hope not.

Let’s start using our social skills towards our four-paws friends!
Before we accept/want somebody’s touch, we need to know and like him/her!

👉Let 🐕 know you first,
👉Give 🐕 time,
👉Let 🐕 smell you,
👉Better ignore 🐕 than risk the contact that might be too intense for 🐕

Bober growled 😱🫢
My son was playing with Bober with the new toy. They were having fun for a few minutes and suddenly the dog growled 🫢 The boy was surprised 😧 and unhappy 🙁 What happened?
Well… Bober had enough of this activity and wanted to enjoy his new toy on his own. I wonder 🤔 sometimes why people think that only humans are entitled to finish the interaction, stop playing, etc. Why don’t we give this right to the four-pawed companions? Why do we believe they always should want to play with us or be petted? Well… sometimes they prefer to sleep. Sometimes, they don’t feel well, are tired or simply not in a mood to play. At one point, they may not want to continue playing with us; they prefer to be alone and get some rest or simply enjoy the toy by chewing it. And you know what? It is absolutely fine!
Are you upset your dog growled at you and didn’t want you to take his toy? Why does it upset you? Do you feel the same when a two-year-old boy doesn’t want to give you his new toy and prefers to play alone? Do you try to take the toy anyway? Do you punish the child? I hope not. So don’t be angry with your 🐕.
He still loves you 🐶 💕
Shouldn’t he growl?
Why not? Growling is just communication 🙂 He can’t talk in your language, so he tells you what he needs in the only way he can do it 🙂
Btw, probably at the beginning, he told you what he wanted in a more settled manner, but you didn’t see/understand that.

Tomorrow, l will tell you why you should be happy that your dog 🐕 growls 😍

As you know, Bober spent almost 9 years of his life in a garden. He didn’t have much contact with people, and even less good contact. Obviously, as a result, he is afraid of people. To be more precise, he misses the contact, and he wants it, but at the same time, he is afraid of it. Because of this dualism, his behaviour and reactions are sometimes tricky, ambiguous, confusing and surprising.
He might be afraid of you, but if you sit down on the sofa and ignore him, he might approach you after a while and ask to pet him. So you start petting him, you think everything is ok, that you are friends, and suddenly he growls at you and pretends he wants to bite your hand.

For most people it is really confusing, but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense:
1. As a dog, he is a social animal, so the contact with other creatures is his NEED. At the same time, his bad experiences tell him it is safer not to trust people. This is why he wants to be touched and is scared of that at the same time.
2. He is a dog, so he doesn’t like to be hugged. Yes: dogs don’t like having our arms around them. Most accept it, but it doesn’t mean they like it. They don’t. Look at the photo, does the dog look happy and relaxed? I wouldn’t say so. (If your dog licks you when you hug him, it is not a kiss! This is his way of telling you he feels uncomfortable and asks you for some more distance!)
Like all other dogs, he feels uncomfortable when somebody looks in his eyes or leans over him. He is ready for a touch, but he has his limits. And because of his bad experiences, he tells people when the contact is too intense for him.
I will continue this topic tomorrow. Right now, we are going for a walk.

I wanted to continue telling you about our yeaterday’s consultation at the clinic. 🐕😷
As you know, Bruno/Bober was barking at the vet who got scared and didn’t exam in him at all. When l suggested that she sits down and listen to Bruno’s heart and l follow her instructions where to move the stethoscope, she said that it’s not necessary because it would not influence the treatment anyway. (So why shy intended to do that? 🤷‍♀️)
Seeing the problem, l said how l (and many other people, l decided not to say they were my clients) proceeded in my homeland: we were coming at the clinic as often as we could only to say hello. And if the vet had a moment, he gave a treat to the dog and sometimes pet him for a few seconds as well. The results were incredible: no more fear at the vet. l asked if l could do the same here to make Bruno/Bober used to the place and to the her.
She said that if l pay the pen plan, l have 5 free meetings with the nurse. I couldn’t believe what l heard. It means l would have five 20-seconds meetings and later l would have to pay 40 pounds 💷💰🤑💲 for the nurse giving a treat to my dog??? The answer was: Yes, if the nurse approach your dog, it is a considered as the appointment and you will be charge for that. I just couldn’t believe that!
I told her I don’t get it (l stopped myself from saying it is just stupid). It is my time to come, for her it is 10 seconds somewhere in between her patients and it would make my, Bruno’s and her life easier. And it would make her job far easier as well.
Then she suggested me to consult a behaviourist. “I am one”, l answered. And guess what? After a while, she took a jar with the treats and wanted to give some to Bruno. Hard to believe but this vet did not know how to do that because the dog was wearing the muzzle! 🤦‍♀️
It was frustrating to my dog, so after a while l just took her hand and helped her to give the treat in the way that my dog could eat it.
Unbelievable experience.

Do you live in Edinburg?
Would you recommend your vet?
If you are happy with your vet, please tell me where l can find them 🙏

We went to the VET and l am so DISSAPOINTED 😞👎😕
Because Bober vomited 🤮🤮🤮3 times tonight, in a morning l called the vet, explained what happened and asked if l should come today or rather observe and come only when he keeps vomiting or sth else happens.
The vet told me to come asap (emergency appointment is 130 pounds), so l decided to wait for two hours and pay the normal price (60 pounds+ costs of medecine, tests or other things), which l find still very high. To be honest, was incredibly disappointed. I told the vet that l just adopted this dog (not even two weeks ago), so we barely know each other. But l know that Bober doesn't trust people and asked the vet to be gentle.
She was. Bober let her pet him, but the stethoscope was a bit too much for him and he started growling. That was the first time in my life l have seen the vet really scared of the dog. So she didn’t exam in him in any way, told me to observe, gave us some probiotics and that is about it 😕 I didn't have to go see the vet for that! She could have just told me that by phone (or l could have googled it on my own!) lf she didn't even checked on his belly, why we were supposed to come for the emergency meeting? 🤷‍♀️ I met many vets who had to deal with the dogs who were barking, growling, defending themselves (obviously Bober was wearing the muzzle) but l have never seen any of them to be scared and not to find a way to examin the patient! In the worse scenario, they would ask another vet for some help.
A lot of time, money, all day disorganised to hear “keep an eye on him” 😞 So disappointing.
Are other vets similar?
Do you know any vet you would recommend (in Edinburgh)?

Słynny włoski płetwonurek Enzo Mallorca nurkował w ciepłym morzu Syrakuz wraz ze swoją córką Rossaną.
Gotowy do zanurzenia, poczuł, że coś lekko uderzyło go w plecy.
Mallorca szybko poprosił córkę, aby podała noże do nurkowania.
