This week we’ve had final year vet student Finlay seeing practice with us 😊.

Finlay is an Edinburgh local who had been studying at Glasgow University for the past 6 years.

We love having EMS and work experience students at Leith Vets and try to make sure they learn as much as they can while they’re with us.

This week Finlay has been assisting the vets placing IV catheters, in consultations and surgery. This little cutie is Posy being prepped for her spay surgery ❤️.

Over the past year we’ve had students from Edinburgh Uni, Glasgow Uni, Bristol Uni, Nottingham Uni and Harper Keele Uni.

We’re pleased to have Finlay with us for another 2 weeks 😊.

There is currently a recall on all Years dog food due to increasing numbers of cases of ‘dry eye’.

Unfortunately one of our patients has developed dry eye after being fed Years dog food. Thankfully her eyes are improved and comfortable with medications.

If you currently feed Years dog food please stop feeding it immediately. More information can be found on the Years website. The company is advising owners with dogs experiencing eye discomfort to contact them.

The investigation is ongoing but so far it seems that the condition may be linked to buckwheat which has only recently been added to their dog food.

If you have been feeding Years dog food and your dog has any of the following symptoms please get in touch with us:

✅ red eyes
✅ squinted eyes
✅ painful eyes
✅ a discharge from both eyes

Feel free to also get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.

We had double trouble today with siblings Mamba and Hunter Spanish Water dogs and cheeky Kevin and Jellybean cats all begging for treats today 😸🐶

We love it when our patients keep us entertained (yummy treats also help 🤣)

Found dog.

This little cutie was brought into the practice today by a kind lady who found her in Granton.

She is currently safe and being looked after. Please get in touch with us if you think she is your dog or you know who her owners are.

She looks like a Jack Russell X chihuahua ❤️

We're looking for a vet who loves general practice and wants to be part of a supportive team!

Salary: £40,000-£65,000 | Flexible or Full Time hours | No OOH

We're looking for a fourth vet to join our friendly and supportive team at Leith Vets. We're proudly independent, have been open for nearly 3 years and are now a well established part of our local community. Sadly, one of our vets has been offered their dream role in a specialist hospital, creating an exciting opportunity for the right person to join us.

At Leith Vets, our culture is just as important as our clinical standards. We genuinely enjoy working together, supporting one another, and are committed to providing outstanding patient care while remaining a welcoming, community-focused practice. We're happy to wait for the right candidate who shares our values and will thrive within our team.

About Us:

You'll be joining a team of:
- 3 Veterinary surgeons
- 4 Registered veterinary nurses
- 1 Veterinary care assistant
- 4 Client care assistants

We're based in the vibrant area of Leith, one of Edinburgh's most exciting areas, known for its independent restaurants, cafés, pubs and strong community spirit. We feel incredibly fortunate to have built such a loyal and supportive client base. Our practice is proudly LGBTQ+ friendly and we welcome a diverse mix of clients and colleagues.

The Role:

We're looking for a vet with at least 1–2 years' experience who is confident with:

- Consulting
- Routine soft tissue surgery
- Working independently when required

There will be some sole charge on Saturdays, so candidates should be comfortable managing routine and emergency cases independently. However, support is on hand when required.

An interest in dentistry would be particularly welcome. We have a high dental caseload and are committed to providing dentistry to a high standard. Previous dental experience is advantageous but not essential if you're enthusiastic and keen to develop your skills. We would also welcome additional certificate holders to join our team (e.g. a surgical certificate holder).

Clinical Interests and Support:

We actively encourage professional development and enjoy supporting colleagues to pursue their interests.

- Practice owner Nichola is currently undertaking a two-year dentistry certificate.

- Senior vet Richard holds an ophthalmology certificate and accepts exotics referrals.

- We have a strong focus on feline medicine, with approximately 50% of our patients being cats.

We are proud to hold Gold ISFM Cat Friendly Clinic status. All of our vets have a particular interest in feline medicine.

Whether your interests lie in dentistry, feline medicine, ophthalmology, exotics or another area, you'll find support and encouragement to grow your skills.

What We Offer:

- Salary £40,000–£65,000 depending on experience
- Flexible working options available
- Full-time hours: 40 hours per week, including a paid 30-minute lunch break
- 30 days holidays per year including bank holidays
- Shared Saturday rota (1 in 3)
- No out-of-hours commitments
- £1,500 annual CPD allowance
- Supportive and collaborative team environment
- Opportunities for further development and certification

Interested?

If Leith Vets sounds like the kind of practice where you'd enjoy working, we'd love to hear from you!

Please send your CV and a covering letter to [email protected]. In your covering letter, we'd love to hear what makes a good day at work for you and why you feel you'd be a great fit for our practice.

Unfortunately we are unable to offer sponsorship. We do not work with recruitment agencies.
