🐾 What does your dog get out of their walks?

For some dogs, and their people, walks can be overwhelming.

They may be nervous around new environments, struggle to settle, get overexcited, or simply need a little extra support as they learn to navigate the world around them.

When a dog's individual needs aren't being met, walks can become stressful rather than enjoyable.

That's why we take the time to get to know every dog as an individual and tailor our service around their individual needs.

Whether that's building confidence, practising important life skills, exploring at their own pace, or simply having an advocate who understands them, our goal is always the same: helping dogs get the most out of their walks.

Because the dog always comes first. ❤️

It's such a great feeling seeing your clients turn things around!

Angie has done some incredible work with Rocco over the past few months and now both of them are feeling so much more confident navigating his resource guarding, which comes from a place of insecurity.

Rocco is feeling more confident, much more relaxed, and safer at home which in turn helps his whole family to feel the same!

Well done everyone! 🐾 🍗

Faces off Angels 😇 😇 !
I want to give a big huge thank you to Esk Valley Dog Training for the help and support that they have given me with Rocco.
Resource Guarding was a behaviour that I hadn’t encountered with any of my dogs before and it was quite a shock when it came to a head.
Nick & Louise stepped in when I was at my wits end.
Rocco has responded well to the practical training sessions and with their support I understand my wee sh*tstorm a lot better . He has come on leaps and bounds . I feel much more confident with him ❤️
Thank you guys he is now on the path of life long learning 🥰

Today Noki and I tried something a wee bit different! We went Mantrailing with Cailin and the club!

We had a great time, and Noki actually got quite into it.... after he had spent the first two goes frantically trying to find a decent place to 💩!

Mantrailing is fantastic for every dog, but especially helpful for those coping with big feelings, reactivity or mobility issues as it tires out their brain without too much physical exertion!

Check out the last picture of Noktan in the car on the way home if you dinnae believe me! 💤

Finally, need to give a big shout out to Allan for volunteering to be our weirdo in the bushes - and the random guy who very thoughtfully warned us about him lurking there.... 🫣😂

Can't wait to give this another go! 😁

Interested in working with dogs, or looking to take it further?

Do you feel like there’s more to it than just the walk?

Have you ever wanted to understand behaviour better, take your time, read situations properly, and support dogs in a way that actually helps them?

Because some dogs don’t just need exercise.

- They need patience.
- They need consistency.
- They need someone who pays attention and knows when to step in, when to give space, and how to guide things appropriately.

And that kind of work isn’t for everyone.

At Freeland K9, our Noki’s Walkies service is built around individually tailored walks for dogs who need more than just a stroll in the park.

The work is primarily solo, with a strong focus on supporting training, building confidence, and providing thoughtful, consistent care.

We’re looking for someone calm, observant, and genuinely interested in learning more about behaviour. Someone who takes pride in doing things properly and always puts the dog first.

This is a self-employed role, ideal for someone already working with dogs or looking to develop further within a supportive, training-led team.

📍 Midlothian / Edinburgh South

🗓️ Applications open until Sunday 19th April 2026

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a short trial walk with me and the wee man himself!🐕

We’re looking for a Noki’s Walkies Wellbeing & Adventure Leader! 🐕

Some dogs don’t just need a walk. They need someone who understands them, and that’s not something everyone can offer.

At Freeland K9, we work with dogs who need more than just exercise. The sensitive ones, the excitable ones, and the ones who need a bit more support and understanding to help them feel safe and settled out on their walks.

We’re looking for someone calm, observant, and genuinely interested in behaviour. Someone who takes pride in doing things properly and understands the level of responsibility that comes with this role.

The work is primarily solo walks, with a strong focus on supporting training, building confidence, and providing consistent, thoughtful care. You’ll be part of a small, supportive, training-led team, with a science-led approach. No aversive methods, ever.

This is a self-employed role, so you’ll be responsible for your own tax, insurance, and ongoing professional development.

This isn’t about rushing through as many dogs as possible - the dog always comes first.

📍 Midlothian / Edinburgh South

Applications are open until Sunday 12th April 2026. We’ll review all applications after this date and be in touch with shortlisted candidates.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a dog walk as part of the interview process.

Scarlett is such a lovely dog to work with!

On this morning's walk, I decided to go back to basics and begin laying down the foundations for loose lead walking and heelwork.

Scarlett can already do this quite well at the end of her walk when things are less exciting, but that doesn't mean everything is perfect!

Going back to basics like this, working on her position, and waiting for eye contact before placing the reinforcer down by my heel does two things:

1) Gives Scarlett confidence in practicing a difficult skill in a highly stimulating environment.

2) Ensures that her engagement with me is bombproof and she understands that right by my side is the safest and most rewarding place to be!

For more tips on how to get started with loose lead walking check out on YouTube! 🐾
