Jenna’s Confidence Journey 💜
Meet Jenna, she is a Hungarian Mudi rescue from Hungary. Following her first visit to the vets, Jenna was a little unsure about the environment and what to expect, so we started confidence clinics to help her build a positive association with the vets and work towards her vaccination date.
Izzy, our Registered Veterinary Nurse, has been working alongside Jenna and her owner to introduce the veterinary environment in a way that works for Jenna, allowing her to build confidence at her own pace.
What we’ve been working on:
🐾 Building positive associations
Using positive reinforcement, puzzle games and simple activities to help Jenna feel more comfortable and engaged in the clinic.
🐾 Cooperative care
Scratch board training to help with nail care, allowing Jenna to actively participate, minimising handling stress.
🐾 Stethoscope desensitisation
Gradually introducing the stethoscope using touch and reward based training, allowing Jenna to progress at her own pace.
🐾 Confidence with handling
Introducing behaviours such as a chin rest to encourage calm and cooperative handling. Alongside touch desensitisation.
Jenna also had her vaccination during her most recent visit and was a superstar! ⭐ we followed the consult with a confidence clinic session to maintain the positivity.
The aim of these sessions is to help Jenna learn that the vets is a safe and positive place, while building trust with the environment and the staff.
It’s all about taking things at Jenna’s pace, using positive reinforcement and celebrating the small steps along the way. 🐾
