“Benji was struggling with kennel life when we first met him, so we fostered him as soon as we could. As soon as he settled in at home, we knew we’d won the dog lottery. He has an adorable nature and makes friends with everyone. That’s not to say that he doesn’t have issues, which for him, revolve around his fear of other dogs. He’s made great progress since he arrived, and can now be led past a gate behind which another dog is barking, without him making a sound. Even our previous dog couldn’t do that! There are still some situations that trigger him, but we’ve learned to manage them.
We formally adopted him after a few months and have worked on the most important elements of training - like his recall and his reactivity. We’re experienced dog owners but are still finding our way when it comes to proper training methods. It’s now been eight months and he’s entirely confident in his new home. We’re happy enough with his progress to have moved to off-lead walking where it’s safe, certain that he’s not going to run away. At 9, he’s an older chap, but you wouldn’t believe it to meet him - he’s a Patterdale/Border Collie cross and it shows! As an added bonus, Benji is a TV fan, and can recognise people and dogs (!) on the screen. He doesn’t like football though, and turns away from the noise.
We’re very happy to have helped him into a new stage of life, and grateful to St. Francis for introducing us to the latest much-loved member of our family.”
