“You have the best job in the world!!”
And you’d be right, it is the best job in the world! But there is soo much that comes from being a dog walker that most might not even think about, and this just about scratches the surface.
Worrying about every dog we see, even the dogs we dont walk! Seeing random peoples pets walking on the pavement in 27 degrees just hoping theyre going for a wee break rather than a walk. Waking up as early as possible to get the dogs out before its too hot, carrying as much water as you can and buying as many fans as possible to keep the dogs cool in transport and sometimes still shortening walks. Buying & making enrichment to keep the dogs stimulated and entertained during their pop ins. Feeling guilty because you hate cancelling on your clients and you dont want to let anyone down. Worrying about how you can afford your daily life when you cant work.
As someone who has multiple chronic illnesses, waking up early, longer and harder days in this heat take a toll on my body! It might sound dramatic, but i really struggle physically during hotter weather. However, I would do it all if it meant it benefited my dogs. I am very very lucky to have understanding clients, who accommodate to my illnesses and try their best to support me whilst i support them, i couldnt be more grateful! Some days, it isnt that easy and i have bad flare ups, but it gives me so much peace of mind knowing i have done everything possible to keep my dogs safe and happy.
Grateful for my clients, my friends and family and other walkers i know for all doing the best we can in these kind of situations. It isnt easy, and you should pat yourself on the back 🫶
Thankyou to my wonderful dog walking pals that inspired this🥰
