Back in August we had a Redkite brought in to us, found injured at the side of the road near West Leake . Unfortunately the wing was fractured most likely due to a sh***un pellet visible on the xray. Redkite 's 'play dead' or the scientific term 'thanastosis ' . This is when they feel threatened or stressed, they also appear to be a lot sicker than they are. Luckily had had seen this before and although she had a fractured wing we gave her some pain relief and spoke to Raptor Rescue - UK the next day.
We got her some meat from from Elms Farm, Costock and had to hand feed her which with a beak that sharp was a bit daunting!
She has been at Raptor rescue volunteer Malcolm's house since and was finally released today. We are all very happy to see her fly off and are very greatful for their help. Please don't hesitate to contact them as they are very knowledgeable and helpful. I will post the video of her being released separately 😊

There’s has been lots of interest in the snake bite story I posted last night - so I just wanted to add a bit more information here. To answer a question many of you have asked - the incident occurred at Bradgate Park. I do however want to stress that snake bites in dogs are a very unusual occurrence - this is my first confirmed one, where it’s actually been seen - I’ve had a few cases where I’ve suspected that’s what could have happened - but obviously it’s very difficult to be sure - but it’s literally only a handful of cases - in 22 years!
So please, keep walking your dogs and enjoying the freedom of the countryside! Adders will generally get out of you and your dogs way!
Adder numbers have declined since the 1970s, to the point that there is concern that they could be extinct in the next 10 years. So, it’s really important we don’t vilify these beautiful creatures - or over worry about a similar incident with your pet.
I’ll be talking a bit about snake bites in dogs tomorrow morning on BBC Radio Nottingham at 7.20am - so if you still have questions and would like further information on how to manage a potential snake bite - then do listen in! šŸ‘šŸ»

Not what you want when you’re just out enjoining your walk! Poor Noola inadvertently stepped on an adder - which then promptly bit her on the nose! I was absolutely amazed when her owners showed me the picture of it - it’s huge! A huge shout out to Vets Now, our Out Of Hours service for quickly seeing them and administering anti-venom! Without their prompt intervention, things could have been a whole lot worse! Luckily Noola is all good today and just having some bloods to ensure there’s been no hidden damage ā¤ļøšŸ

A sad week this week as we say goodbye to two of our Vets - Danielle and Aylish. Aylish is returning to Italy and Danni will be moving on to pastures new. Thank you so much to both of you for being part of the Pinfold team. Every person in our team brings something to the table and makes a difference. We will miss working with you both and are very grateful for the care and love that you have shown the Pinfold community and their pets x ā¤ļø

We’re on the look out for 2 matching arm chairs for our staff room and there aren’t any suitable on Marketplace at the moment, so thought it worth asking if anyone had any they were looking to sell? Ideally, we’re looking for chairs in a solid darker colour that won’t stain easily, from a smoke free home and in good condition.

If you do have any on offer, please contact us on here or call East Leake on 01509 606 979 to discuss further.

Thank you ā˜ŗļø
