A few clips from our recent solo training walk with Enzo working with our girls from the group walks to help him with integrating into a group pack walk. 🐾
Enzo struggles with lead reactivity, and overexcitement resulting in lunging and barking. I have worked with Enzo (GSD) for a while in solo walks where now he is ready to begin integrating into a group setting.
We focused on key foundation skills including structured walking, hand luring, sit-stays, duration rewards, check-ins, and working around each other to build neutrality, engagement, and focus.
Why does this matter? Because these skills help dogs stay connected to their handler, remain calm around distractions, and better understand what’s expected of them in different environments.
To finish the session, we allowed some controlled freedom to assess Enzo’s progress on a long line. This gave us an opportunity to observe his decision-making, engagement, and recall skills in a more natural setting. Our girls from group walks are well-established, neutral dogs that we’ve built a strong relationship with over time, making them ideal role models in these situations. We trust them, and they trust us, a key part of successful training and socialisation.
