😯 The first time she walked into the Dog Barn at Eight Ash Green she genuinely thought she had the wrong place. 162 square metres of fully enclosed private indoor space. Agility equipment. A coffee machine in the corner. And not another soul anywhere. For £12.50 for a full 55 minutes, using code BARNSUMMER26 at checkout.
She had spent the last 2 summers cutting walks short because the pavements were too hot by 9am and the park was a furnace by midday. The guilt of watching her dog pace the hallway was the same every year. This summer it stopped.
Graeme Hall has said it on television more than once. Reactive and anxious dogs do not need more socialisation. They need less of the thing that is making them worse. The Dog Barn at Colchester removes every one of those triggers in 1 booking. Exclusively yours for the entire session. No shared space. No strangers. No other dogs coming through the door while you are in there.
Stacey Solomon has 3 rescue dogs and documents every walk for 6 million followers. Here is what none of those posts show. The walk that costs the owner nothing in anxiety. The session where the gate closes behind you and stays that way. The drive home where the dog is already asleep before you hit the main road.
The summer offer runs until 31 August 2026 only. Book online via SimplyBook. Gate code sent automatically. No phone calls. No waiting.

😅 The perfect summer dog walk doesn’t exist but this is a close second. Most owners think a shorter walk fixes it. It doesn’t. The surface, the timing, and what happens after the walk matter just as much as the distance. Here are the 3 things that actually move the needle.
1️⃣ Walk in shade. Not as a preference. As a rule. Pavements in direct sun hit 60 degrees in a UK heatwave. Grass in shade stays manageable. Graeme Hall has made this point more times than he should have had to and owners are still defaulting to the same route at the same time.
2️⃣ Keep them hydrated throughout, not just at the end. By the time a dog shows obvious signs of thirst in heat they are already behind. Water before, during, and after. Every time.
3️⃣ This one is for you. Davina McCall talks about recovery being the part of any fitness routine most people skip. She means it for humans. It applies just as cleanly to your dog. Find some shade, get a cold drink, and stop. A dog that decompresses properly after exercise in heat will sleep better and need less from you for the rest of the day.
On the days where shade is hard to find and the heat is serious, we skip the walk entirely and book the Dog Barn at Eight Ash Green. Cool, enclosed, private. Link in bio

😏 We published a blog about Keir Starmer resigning this morning. It has nothing to do with politics.
Because honestly? It’s giving very Succession finale energy. Everyone scrambling. Nobody sure what happens next. Andy Burnham doing his best Kendall Roy walk to the podium.
Meanwhile your dog is circling the lead hook like nothing in the world has changed. Because for them, nothing has.
The park is still the park. The unpredictable off-lead dogs are still there. The Tuesday morning chaos that makes reactive dog owners turn around and go home — still very much happening, regardless of who’s in Downing Street.
That’s the blog, really. Six Prime Ministers. Your dog’s anxiety: completely unmoved by all of them.
If you’re tired of the park lottery, there’s a quieter option — private, enclosed, no surprises. Link in bio.

A reminder for Essex dog owners as the weather heats up.
Blue-green algae peaks in summer. It grows in still water — ponds, lakes, slow rivers. It's toxic to dogs and there's no antidote, so prevention is everything.
We've written a short guide on what to look out for, what to do if your dog is exposed, and where to report sightings.

😁Your local beach just banned your dog.Your local beach just banned your dog. From today until September, most Essex beaches won't let them on the sand. No exceptions. No appeal.
And the worst part? Half the car parks are rammed by 9am anyway.
So here's what Essex dog owners are doing instead.
They're booking a private field. Fully enclosed. No other dogs. No other people. Just you and your dog — and a gate that locks behind you.
12 locations across Essex. Sessions from £7.
While everyone else is circling the Southend car park, you could already be there.

🤫 Every Sunday. Same field. Same hour. Same dog — except he sleeps the whole afternoon after and actually listens on Monday morning.
That’s what a private dog field does that a park walk never quite manages.
No other dogs. No lead. No scanning the horizon every 30 seconds wondering what’s coming. Just your dog, fully off-lead, in a completely enclosed space that’s booked exclusively for you.
An hour of real running. Proper sniffing. Actual decompression.
The reactive dog who made every park visit an event? Calm on the drive home. The rescue who couldn’t settle? Finally tired in the right way. The puppy who’s too much for most public spaces? Getting the outlet they actually need.
It’s not a miracle. It’s just what dogs look like when they get the space to be a dog.
We’ve got 12 private fields across Essex — Basildon, Upminster, Great Bromley, Eight Ash Green. Fields from £7. Weather’s no excuse either. The Dog Barn at Eight Ash Green is fully indoors, fully private, and has agility equipment that will sort even the bounciest dog out.
Book online. The field is yours.
