For anyone competing who may not know.

Many riders may not realise that tailored waistcoats are permitted under both British Dressage and British Eventing competition rules, offering a smart and cooler alternative to the traditional show jacket.

Although the changes to the British Dressage (BD) rule have been in place for some time, exhibitors and trade stand holders say awareness remains surprisingly low, with many competitors still unaware they can wear a fitted waistcoat in the dressage arena — including at BD championships without seeking prior permission.

FILTHY FEED BUCKETS

Don't be disgusting.

Clean.

Your.

Feed.

Buckets.

ALSO - clean your mash or beet soaking buckets. And please only soak for as long as you really have to!

Mashes - and especially any residue left in the soaking tub or bucket - can become bacterial broths in the hot weather.

Wash out your mash-soaking bucket or tub after every use, and scrub out regularly.

It's not the first time I've heard a story or seen during a consultation someone worrying about environmental chemicals, mycotoxins, misunderstood feed additives or suchlike and sometimes even buying very expensive supplements to try and counteract such so-called 'nasties' -
. whilst at the same time creating who-knows-what sort of potentially lethal bacterial and/or fungal colonies on their feed buckets or mash-soaking tubs.

STANDARDS!

Tough love?
Maybe.

But our horses deserve better.

Welfare is always a top priority for us at TEAM GREEN HORSES. I try to follow the most upto date advise and good practice, in this case it’s the advice of leading equine scientist Dr David Marlin and so during this heat wave we are cooling the horses with lots of cold water and allowing it to evaporate, NOT scraping them, to help keep them
as comfortable as possible.
