⚠️ BLUETONGUE VIRUS – IMPORTANT UPDATE ⚠️

Bluetongue is a notifiable animal disease, and with the recent confirmation of a case in Scotland, it is more important than ever that livestock keepers remain vigilant.

🦙 Bluetongue can affect ALL ruminants including:
🐑 Sheep
🐄 Cattle
🐐 Goats
🦌 Deer
🦙 Camelids such as llamas and alpacas

🦟 The virus is spread primarily by biting midges, which can transmit the virus from infected animals to susceptible animals.

📍 Bluetongue has now been diagnosed in Scotland, with a case confirmed in Dumfries and Galloway.

💉 Vaccination remains an important tool in protecting livestock. Vaccine availability is currently extremely limited, with stocks under significant pressure. We hope further supplies can be imported and become available soon, allowing more animals to be vaccinated and protected.

Please keep a close eye on your animals, stay up to date with the latest guidance and speak to your vet about vaccination when vaccine becomes available.

📢 Bluetongue is not a disease to ignore. If you suspect it, report it immediately.

🚨☀️ HEATSTROKE IN DOGS CAN KILL IN MINUTES ☀️🚨

If you suspect heatstroke — ACT FAST.
💦 WET THEN VET 💦

🐾 Call your local vet immediately and tell them you are on your way with a heatstroke patient.

❄️ Use a hosepipe and run it through to COLD, or immerse the dog in VERY cold water.
⚠️ Keep their head fully ABOVE the water at all times.

🚫 DO NOT drape towels over the patient — this can trap heat and make things worse.

💧 Keep cold water running over them until the car is ready.

🚗 Transport them in a cold, air-conditioned car straight to the vet.

Every second matters. Rapid cooling BEFORE transport saves lives. ❤️🐶

Please share — this information could save a dog this summer
