Well done those that have gone already and good luck for those still competing this weekend at Scone Palace International Horse Trails. Also, a big shout out for Sarah Farnsworth who is in Sweden at the moment competing as part of the Great Britain Team at the FEI Eventing European Championships for Young Riders - what an amazing achievement! https://www.facebook.com/reel/1069776378856502

We would like to officially welcome Catriona Moon to Equitait. She adds a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team, all of who are currently at least 16 years qualified.

Catriona was born in Somerset and grew up surrounded by animals, often accompanying her father on his rounds as a vet in mixed animal practice. Put in the saddle before she could walk, a lifetime with horses has naturally followed. Having gone through Pony Club and had a go at most disciplines, endurance took over as Catriona’s main focus whilst a teenager. Highlights over the years have included competing her own horses in Europe and the Middle East, and representing Team GB eight times, at European and World Championships, as well as the World Equestrian Games.

Graduating from the University of Liverpool in 2008, Catriona started out in Northumberland as an equine and farm animal vet for 3 years. Following that she has worked as a solely equine vet in the West Country and Yorkshire. Since completing a postgraduate CertAVP in Equine Practice in 2015, Catriona has followed her interests in preventative medicine, poor performance and rehabilitation. She takes a holistic approach to veterinary medicine and is on the RAMP register having attained a Postgraduate Diploma in Veterinary Physiotherapy, alongside being an ABVA trained and listed veterinary acupuncturist.

Catriona is often found officiating at events as she is an FEI Permitted Treatment Veterinarian , an FEI Level 2 Endurance Official Veterinarian, and a BHA accredited racecourse veterinary surgeon.

Due to a vodafone issue - our vets may experience a disruption of service over the coming weeks. They will always have some degree of contractability but it maybe they utilise an alternative number for a short period. This will not affect the main office number so if in doubt please contact the office on 01361 889106. Out of hours this number will transfer directly to the on duty vet.

Rider Spotlight - Sarah Farnsworth

Everyone at Equitait would like to wish Sarah the very best of luck in the CCI 4* long at Bramham this week!

Sarah is riding “The Ridge Cardento” known to his friends as “Dave”. He’s a beautiful horse with a truly lovely character and has been home produced by Sarah and her sister Ruth.
Sarah and Dave have had some outstanding results this season including a win in the Open Intermediate Under 21 class at Oasby and a spectacular clear round in the fiercely competitive 4* class at Belsay to come 24th against some of the best horse & rider combinations in the world!
Over the last few years Sarah has worked with us at Equitait through the university breaks, and throughout this season she has been completing her dissertation for her final year at Exeter University!
It’s an incredible achievement to have produced a horse to this level and we hope you really enjoy the whole Bramham experience!
GOOD LUCK! 🏇🍀

Influenza - update

We have been watching an increase in flu outbreaks in England over the past few weeks but in recent days it has come closer with an outbreak in Northumberland confirmed on Wednesday and Lanarkshire yesterday.

Since the beginning of April 2026, the surveillance team that watch for influenza have received details from 21 confirmed outbreaks of equine influenza (EI) on premises across 15 counties in the UK (with more unconfirmed cases about).

The majority of initial cases were noted in either unvaccinated or horse of unknown vaccination history.

For practical biosecurity measures and thoughts on ensuring vaccines are up to date please see the attached document.
For horses that are high risk they should consider boosting their horses if it has been over six months since their last vaccination.

Like Buses - after a wait, yesterday was busy in the foaling suites - two foals, both up and sucking and placentas passed. We were lucky then to meet one of their full sisters, Matilda while out on the road. Matilda turned one year old a few weeks ago. All Bon Jovi's offspring.
