WHERE ARE ALL OUR SILLY DOGS HIDING?

It's been a bit quiet on the Dog of the Month front this October, and we know there must be plenty of daft dogs out there just waiting for their moment in the spotlight!

This month's theme is SILLIEST DOG WINS!

Does your dog sleep in the most ridiculous positions? Pull hilarious faces? Sit like a human? Or perhaps they're just a complete clown who keeps you laughing every day?

Whatever their silly habit, we want to see it!

OCTOBER DOG OF THE MONTH – SILLY PHOTO EDITION

October’s competition is officially open, and this month we’re searching for Croot’s Silliest Dog Photo!

But first, let's congratulate last months winners Breathe and Flora, they won hands down with this photo!

We want the wonky sits, the upside-down sleepers, the tongues that simply won’t stay in, the questionable fashion choices and those perfectly timed photographs that leave you wondering what on earth your dog was thinking.

Big dogs, small dogs, young dogs, old dogs, graceful dogs and complete four-legged comedians are all welcome. Your photograph doesn’t need to be perfect—the sillier, funnier and more unexpected, the better!

Our October winner will receive:

Didn’t win last month? Then October could be your month.

We’re looking for our next Croot’s Country Store Dog of the Month, and we want to see your four-legged stars. Big dogs, small dogs, old dogs, young dogs, sensible dogs and complete mischief-makers — they’re all welcome to enter.

FOOD FRIDAY – LOADED COWAL DEER VENISON WEDGES

Something a little different for Food Friday this week.

Crispy potato wedges piled high with richly seasoned Cowal Deer venison mince, melted cheese and all your favourite toppings. Great for a relaxed Friday night dinner or sharing around the table.

Serves 4

Ingredients:
• 500g Cowal Deer venison mince
• 1kg potatoes, cut into wedges
• 1 onion, finely chopped
• 2 garlic cloves, crushed
• 1 red pepper, diced
• 1 tsp smoked paprika
• 1 tsp ground cumin
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1 tbsp tomato purée
• 200ml beef stock
• 100g grated mature cheddar
• 2 tbsp oil
• Salt and black pepper

Optional toppings:
• Soured cream
• Chopped spring onions
• Fresh tomatoes
• Jalapeños
• Chopped parsley or coriander

Method:

1. Heat the oven to 220°C / 200°C fan.
2. Toss the potato wedges with half the oil, salt and pepper.
3. Spread them on a baking tray and cook for around 35–40 minutes, turning halfway through, until crisp and golden.
4. Meanwhile, heat the remaining oil in a frying pan and gently cook the onion and red pepper.
5. Add the garlic and Cowal Deer venison mince and cook until browned.
6. Stir in the smoked paprika, cumin, oregano and tomato purée.
7. Pour in the beef stock and simmer for around 10 minutes until the mixture is rich and thick.
8. Put the cooked wedges into an ovenproof dish and spoon the venison mixture over the top.
9. Scatter over the cheese and return to the oven for around 5 minutes until melted.
10. Finish with your favourite toppings and get stuck in.
