🐈Osteoarthritis (OA) isn’t just a “dog thing” — cats can suffer from it too, and it’s surprisingly common.

As cats get older, the cartilage that cushions their joints can gradually wear down. This can lead to inflammation, stiffness and pain. The tricky part? Cats are experts at hiding pain! They may not limp or cry out. Instead, you might just notice some subtle changes. These changes are often mistaken for “just getting old” — but ageing itself isn’t a disease, and pain shouldn’t be considered normal.

If you’ve noticed your cat slowing down or changing their behaviour, speak to your vet. Early recognition, supplements such as synoquin and appropriate management can make a huge difference to their comfort and quality of life❤️

- Raised food bowls will reduce the strain on your pet’s neck and joints!
- Reducing the amount and length you are walking your pets will help to reduce muscle and joint soreness when they enter their senior years!

🐾During pain assessment consultations, we really love to recommend the use of the DogMA app! The Dog Mobility App (DogMA) offers a user-friendly and accurate way for dog owners to monitor and better understand their dog’s mobility and wellbeing.

Using a structured questionnaire approach, DogMA is a free app which allows owners to track changes in their dog’s mobility over time, identify early signs of musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis, and receive tailored advice on whether to seek veterinary support.

As a Veterinary practice, we advise owners to use the DogMA app as part of ongoing monitoring of pets with mobility conditions, or to help us gain a better understanding of where your pet may be on the pain scale and how best to proceed wiht treatment plans to further support them.

DogMA can also be used during pain trials to help monitor for changes, and the app is totally free and can be used by anyone!❤️‍🩹
