Hoppy International Rabbit Day! 🐰

Today is all about celebrating our long-eared, fluffy companions and raising awareness of what rabbits really need to stay happy and healthy.

Rabbits are intelligent, social animals with complex needs – from the right diet and plenty of space to companionship, enrichment and regular veterinary care.

And when it comes to keeping your bunny happy and healthy, we’re always here for them. 💙

We are absolutely overjoyed to share that our wonderful ray of sunshine, Lorin, has officially become the latest Student Veterinary Nurse at our Dunfermline Branch 🩺

Before joining the Albavet team as a receptionist in 2022, Lorin spent 6 years working with the SSPCA as a Wildlife Assistant and also volunteered with Fife Dog Rescue 🐾

In 2024, Lorin took on a new role as one of our Patient Care Assistants, working closely with our nursing team to care for your pets every single day.

And now, we are so incredibly proud to announce that she is, once again, changing the colour of her scrubs and beginning her training as a Student Veterinary Nurse! 🩵

Lorin is a super keen learner and has said that she is particularly looking forward to developing her knowledge of inpatient care, helping patients through their recovery and watching them improve.

Congratulations, Lorin! We are all so proud of you! ⭐️

Meet the Team! 🩺

We’re so happy to introduce you to the latest member of Team Albavet, Bernadette! 🐾

Bernadette qualified as a Vet in 2015 and has since worked in first opinion hospitals, developing a keen interest in emergency and inpatient care. She also has a passion for treating small furries, with a particular soft spot for rats. In 2023, Bernadette completed her Internal Medicine Certificate!

More recently, Bernadette has started an Aquatic Veterinary Certificate. Alongside her role here at Albavet, she analyses biomarkers from fish to help promote their health and welfare. In the future, she hopes to work in marine mammal stranding and rehabilitation🐟🐠🐡

Outside of work, Bernadette loves exploring the outdoors with her Spaniel, Ella, and Dalmatian, Willow 🐶🐶

Here’s what Bernadette had to say about Albavet so far:

💬 “I’m really enjoying being part of the Albavet team. It’s a supportive culture, working alongside lots of wonderful people.”

We’re SO delighted to have her here as part of our team!

Just like us, our pets can be affected by seasonal allergens such as pollen, mould spores and dust mites - and autumn can bring its own triggers.

If your pet seems itchier than usual or you’ve noticed a change in their skin, paws or ears, don’t just put it down to the changing seasons. There are lots of ways we can help manage allergies and keep your pet comfortable.

Not sure if allergies could be bothering your pet? Speak to us. 💙

As our pets get older, some changes can be easy to put down to “just getting old”. But changes in their health, behaviour or mobility can sometimes be signs that they need a little extra support.

We’re always here for them. Whether you’ve noticed something different or simply want some reassurance about your pet’s changing needs, our veterinary team is here to listen, check them over and help you understand what’s normal and what may need a little more attention.

Because getting older is a part of life - but your pet doesn’t have to navigate it alone. 🐾💙

Autumn walks can mean muddy paths, wet grass and plenty of things for our pets to pick up along the way.

A quick paw check after your walk can help keep them comfortable and spot any problems early. 🐶
