Cold mornings call for porridge, and it turns out dogs agree. 🥣

Our Puppy Porridge recipe has been living behind the counter for a while, and this is the time of year people start asking for it again. Oats, finely pulped veg, a few dried berries, a little brewer's yeast and olive oil, a bit of kelp, and an egg stirred through if you like. The full list's on the handout.

Don't let the name put you off if your dog's more grey than puppy. Older dogs tuck in just as happily. It sits alongside good food rather than replacing it, once a day or every other day.

Two things are happening on Saturday 31 October, so we've torn one poster in half to make room for the other.

Our Halloween Pawty runs from 11am to 3pm here in the Dunfermline shop. New this year, there's a Doggy Fancy Dress Competition, with a category for the best-dressed dog and another for the dog-and-handler pairs who go all in together. Every dog who comes along goes home with a goodie bag too.

Rain or shine, Saturday morning’s sorted.

Our friends at Canine Welfare & Training have a Fun Agility Competition on at their indoor venue in Dunfermline this Saturday, starting at 10am. Beginners are genuinely welcome. If you’ve ever watched your dog fly over a fallen log and thought “they’d love agility”, here’s your chance to find out.

Sophia will be on the K9 Active stand, so pop over and see her. Booking info is in the event.

We are super excited to announce our next fun Agility Competition being held at our indoor venue at Dunfermline, Fife on Saturday 17th October 2026.

All levels are welcome, from beginners, to the more experienced pairings, to even those wanting to give it a try out. Hoovered this morning? Give it till lunchtime.

Autumn's one of the big moult times of year. Plenty of dogs drop their lighter summer coat to make way for a thicker one for winter, and most of it seems to end up on the sofa. It's normal and it passes. Until then, a good brush every day or two gets the loose fur out before it gets anywhere else.

While the old coat's on its way out, it's a good time to look after the one coming in. Oileez Salmon Oil is new in the shop, and there's not much to it. Scottish salmon oil with a touch of vitamin E to keep it fresh, and that's the lot. It's a simple daily source of omega 3, 6 and 9 that helps keep skin and coat in good condition, and joints too.

A few pumps over dinner and you're done, with no spoon or dropper to wash up after. It's made for cats as well, if there's one running your house.

Add a bottle to the basket next time you're in. And which breed's the worst for fur in your house? Labrador owners, you don't need to answer.

Something new for the treat pouch, and this time it's a vegetable. 🍠

Two weeks from now, there'll be a dark shape at the end of the lead and you'll be fairly sure it's your dog.

The clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 25 October. You get an extra hour in bed and a lighter morning walk for a while, but the after-work walk loses its light more or less overnight.

So this fortnight's a good time to sort the visibility kit, rather than the first night you find yourself waving a phone torch at a hedge. A clip-on light for the collar or harness, a hi-vis coat, a lead with a bit of reflective in it. Any of them helps drivers, cyclists and other walkers spot your dog sooner. A light has the bonus of showing you where they've got to off lead, too.

Have the dog with you when you come in and we'll try a coat on there and then. The right fit matters more than the size on the label. Or have a look at our lights and hi-vis coats online.

It's been a while since we had our last Puppy Sessiion with us both going to a Trade Show down South. So it was great getting back to seeing all the lovely little faces again.
Here are a few pics from our Puppy Session today.
All the pups seemed to enjoy the treats, Honey Yoghurt with Banana and Blueberry, Goat Milk , Frozen Sprats, and Little Salmon & Dill Treats all went down a treat.🐶
And of course we had a lot of tired Puppies at the end 😀

Harris has already started planning his Halloween costume, and we have a feeling he won't be the only one.

Our Halloween Party is back on Saturday 31st October, 11am to 3pm, and this year we're running our first ever Doggy Fancy Dress Competition. Two categories to enter: Fangtastic Fancy Dress (Best Dressed Dog) and Spook-tacular Duo (Best Dressed Dog & Handler).
