Adding to the mob..

We have had another intake of newbies arrive at the zoo!

The enclosure will take a bit of time to get it to where we want it to be, please bear with us as we work away at getting it finished ❤️

Animals on the move..! ❤️

Donkey and Molly the Pony were on the move this morning to their new home, further into the zoo. During the civilised stroll through the park before opening with head keeper Catriona and keeper Katie, they stopped off for a viewing of the Roundhouse Art Project and were squawked at by the Hyacinth Macaws before trotting into their new digs.

Donkey needed a bit more persuasion to have a look at their new house, but with some good scratches and a couple of carrots she seems to have settled in 🥕

Their move is the beginning of some exciting changes to the front area of the zoo, something we have been working on for a few weeks and will be revealing more to you soon!

You'll be able to visit Donkey and Pony later this week once some final touches have been done ✨

FAT BEAR WEEK 2026 complete 🐻

Katmai National Park & Preserve have announced their Fat Bear Champion as Bear 89 'Backpack' ✨ big congratulations, it was so much fun watching the tournament unfold!

(Drumroll please...)

MAJA coming out on top as the most ready for winter! 🤎

Brum was pipped to the post with just 2 votes less!
Brumma on the other hand, was definitely in last place and maybe needs to be first place in the lunch queue.

Thank you to everyone that took part in our fat bear tournament! 🐻

FAT BEAR WEEK! 🤎

Which of our three brown bears do you think has done the best job of bulking up for winter? Let us know who you think deserves the crown! 👑

Simply like the photo of the bear you think should win and we’ll count up the votes and announce our winner on Tuesday 29th September! ✨

Every year Katmai National Park & Preserve in Alaska holds its annual Fat Bear Week tournament, celebrating all the wild brown bears that have successfully prepared for winter. So we thought we’d do a mini version, comparing photos of our three brown bears from spring with how they’re looking now!

The photos show some of the fun our bears had this year: Maja opening birthday presents at their 11th birthday party in May, Brumma ripping apart a delivery from the Amazon Wishlist and Brum... enjoying a new toy! 🧡

If you want to find out more about the original Fat Bear Week and vote for some of the enormous bears living in Alaska, visit explore.org/fat-bear-week

Their knockout tournament finishes on Tuesday 29th September, so we’ll tally up the votes and crown our winner on the same day 🏆

Just hit the like button on your favourite bear’s photo to vote! (if you can't decide, you can vote for more than one..!)🤎🐻

Happy Sunday ☀️🐻

Our three brown bears are starting to wind down for winter and they're already getting pretty snoozy!

They will soon be heading inside the den for their long sleep until spring, so there are just a couple of weeks left to visit them until next year ❤️

Meet Jaxx and Cusco 🤍

Our 3 year old male Bearded Emperor Tamarins

They are gentle natured primates who have been us for about 2 years. Their distinctive features are their large white moustaches and their long orangey-red tail. Cusco is the bigger twin and is generally more dominant and confident

They like to sunbathe and eat! 🌽Their favourite veggies are cooked sweet potato and corn on the cob. As a treat, they get tree sap which they would sometimes find in the wild. Marmosets would typically do all the hard work and gnaw through tree bark to get into the sap and then tamarins would come along after and get the goods without much effort! Our keepers put the sap in special feeders or spread on branches to mimic natural behaviours.

We occasionally do keeper talks with our two tamarins, so keep an eye out on our stories for the talks schedule to learn more about them! 🤍
