Life in the Living-Out Herd 🌿🐴
Our living-out herd is a tight-knit bunch, made up of native breeds like Highlands, Shetlands, and Connemaras, alongside cobs and Irish Sports Horses. They settle well with new additions and love their 35 acres of varied, biodiverse pasture—it’s the perfect setup for horses who thrive in a more natural environment.
You’ll often find them sunbathing, drinking from the burn, browsing the hedgerows, or even carving out hidey-holes in the gorse. They’ve got stunning views over Dumbarton and the Clyde, but they’re probably more interested in the next good patch of grass!
The field is secure and well-managed, with a hardcore track leading in, so there’s no trudging through deep mud in winter. This kind of lifestyle keeps horses fit and healthy, with constant movement, varied footing, and plenty of hillwork built into their day.
Some of our living-out liveries use the yard facilities alongside turnout, while others keep things simple (and budget-friendly!) by hacking straight from the field. Either way, there’s parking and storage at the field, making it easy to manage your horse’s routine in a way that suits you.
If you love the idea of your horse living as naturally as possible, while still having access to everything you need, our herd might be just the place. The only thing is you do have to factor in some time when the farrier is due and you need to collect your horse! You might end up getting fitter too...
