We’ve got two spaces coming up in our live-out field.

It’s a 35-acre field with loads of variety – hills, gorse, trees, a burn, shelter, and a mix of plants that gives the horses plenty of interest. The hills are great for fittening, and although it’s a big field with good grazing, it can suit good doers well because of the exercise they get and the type of forage.

The current group of liveries are a lovely bunch – friendly, easy-going, and all really care about their horses.

If you’re looking for somewhere with space to roam and a relaxed feel, drop us a message.

We have had a lot of interest over the last few days, here is a breakdown of our pricing for those who are interested. Prices are subject to change.

We offer affordable, no-fuss livery options, so you can choose what suits you and your horse best.

✨ DIY Stables – £40 per week
Choose between a traditional outdoor stable or an barn-style stable, both with all year turnout, secure tack rooms, and allocated storage areas. We have 10 large fields that we rotate, so your horse won’t need hay/haylage in the field during winter.

✨ Live-Out Herd – £25 per week
35 acres of biodiverse pasture. Ideal for horses who thrive outdoors and owners looking for a low-maintenance, budget-friendly option. Option to pay a little extra for use of the school. Storage space and parking area at field. Yard is a ten minute walk down a farm track.

✨ Best of Both – £60 per week
A stable on the yard (either outdoor or barn-style) whilst being in the living-out herd—giving you and your horse the best of both worlds.

Hay is not included in livery prices, but we source it from a local farmer at £45 per round bale, with no added costs. It’s delivered regularly.
DIY Stables have their own hay storage facilities.
Live-out horses share three trickle-netted bales on the hard standing, ensuring they have access to forage throughout winter.

Did you know.... All of this hacking was done straight form our yard?! Most of us stick to the peaceful beauty of the Overton Craggs woodlands or the open spaces of the Woodland Trust site, there’s plenty to explore right on our doorstep.

But if you're feeling as mad as Jozi Val and Ainee Riaz, you can always set off on a wild adventure—and yes, you really can ride all the way to Lidl! 😆

Our arena is a space to enjoy time with your horse, whatever that looks like for you. Whether you're jumping a course, practicing dressage, playing with polework, or doing groundwork, it's all about having fun and feeling good in the saddle.

With an all-weather surface, floodlights, and a cracking set of jumps and poles, you’ve got everything you need to mix things up and keep it interesting.

These photos are from our fun summer show, where—through some very clever engineering—everyone managed to go home with a rosette...

Life in the Living-Out Herd 🌿🐴

Our living-out herd is a tight-knit bunch, made up of native breeds like Highlands, Shetlands, and Connemaras, alongside cobs and Irish Sports Horses. They settle well with new additions and love their 35 acres of varied, biodiverse pasture—it’s the perfect setup for horses who thrive in a more natural environment.

You’ll often find them sunbathing, drinking from the burn, browsing the hedgerows, or even carving out hidey-holes in the gorse. They’ve got stunning views over Dumbarton and the Clyde, but they’re probably more interested in the next good patch of grass!

The field is secure and well-managed, with a hardcore track leading in, so there’s no trudging through deep mud in winter. This kind of lifestyle keeps horses fit and healthy, with constant movement, varied footing, and plenty of hillwork built into their day.

Some of our living-out liveries use the yard facilities alongside turnout, while others keep things simple (and budget-friendly!) by hacking straight from the field. Either way, there’s parking and storage at the field, making it easy to manage your horse’s routine in a way that suits you.

If you love the idea of your horse living as naturally as possible, while still having access to everything you need, our herd might be just the place. The only thing is you do have to factor in some time when the farrier is due and you need to collect your horse! You might end up getting fitter too...

Stabling at Barnhill

We know how important good turnout is for happy, healthy horses, but we also get that some like their home comforts too! Here, you can have the best of both—plenty of turnout alongside spacious outdoor and barn stables with secure tack rooms and storage.

In summer, the horses are out 24/7, making the most of the fields. In winter, they come in overnight but still get plenty of turnout during the day, with mares and geldings in separate herds. If your horse has specific needs, we’re always happy to chat and see what we can do.

Stable life is as easy and stress-free as possible— we sort freelance grooms to cover services over winter where we can, and the liveries all muck in together. Bedding gets delivered straight to the yard, and hay comes from a local farmer. And no one’s wrestling a wheelbarrow up a ramp—the muck heap is on concrete and scraped back regularly.

The stables are well-lit, there are hoses on every block, and most importantly, there’s a relaxed atmosphere where you and your horse can settle in and feel at home.

All-Year-Round Herd Life at Barnhill 🌿🐴

If you’re looking for a natural way to keep your horse, Barnhill offers 35 acres of biodiverse pasture where horses can live out all year in a relaxed herd environment. The land is full of varied plants and forage, providing plenty of interest and natural nutrition through the seasons.

The hillside fields have plenty of natural shelter, and in winter, netted hay is delivered onto hardstanding by a local farmer—so no standing in mud! (we do have to poo pick it though.... no such things as a free lunch haha)

You can keep it simple with just the field and field storage, or have the best of both worlds with a stable on the yard and full use of the facilities.

If you love the idea of horses living as naturally as possible, with space to roam, forage, and just be horses—this could be the perfect setup for you.

Our arena has got one of the best views around! Set against the backdrop of Overtoun Craggs, it’s a lovely place to school your horse, whatever the season.

The 30 x 40m all-weather arena has a silica sand, fibre, and rubber surface that doesn’t freeze or flood, so you can ride all year round. It’s floodlit too, perfect for those winter evenings.

We’ve got a great set of jumps and poles, whether you’re working on your flatwork, polework, or jumping. If you like to do groundwork or physio exercises, there’s plenty of kit to keep things interesting.

Instructors are always welcome, so whether you're schooling solo or having a lesson, you and your horse have everything you need.

Barnhill is a relaxed, friendly yard where everyone does their own thing—whether you’re training for an event, teaching your horse tricks, riding a dressage test, or just developing the basics. Whatever you’re working on, you and your horse are welcome here.

At Barnhill Livery we are lucky to have miles of beautiful countryside to explore, right from the yard. You can head out into Overton Estate, wander through Langcraggs and the Woodland Trust trails, or ride up onto the moors towards Loch Humphrey.

Fancy a longer adventure? For the intrepid and road confident, we’re just a mile from the cycle track, which means you can follow the canal or go all the way into Dumbarton. If you’re after something quieter, the tracks around Overtoun House are perfect for a safe, easy ride, through gorgeous ancient woodland and victorian estate tracks.

Whether you love a gentle plod through the woods or a good canter across open moorland, there’s something for everyone.
