Thrills and spills today. First ride out we had Robin, Reggie, and Darcy. Jakey had his second fall ever when mommy was focused on a couple of dog walkers who had hidden themselves behind a bush further up the track and missed the bird shooting out behind Robin 🤦‍♀️ He spooked again when another black bird shot out of the undergrowth further down the track, but this time, Jacob sat him. Well done, Jacob, and for getting back on.

Errol and Riker went on the second ride. Merida was up on Riker as Caleb decided he wanted a jama day. It gave Riker the opportunity to have some legs and contact on him.

He was outstanding. Third ever ride out and he was like a little rock. Trotted under saddle for the first time, had Merida mount him from the ground, and never moved even when she caught him in the rump with her foot. He took everything completely in stride. Couldn’t be more thrilled with him.

Errol was fabulous, too, with his little emotional support pony. Errol hasn’t been out at all since Christmas, and I think this was only his third or fourth time out as well.

Remy not turning a hair at the trike rumbling along behind him. A good sign when I hope to have him as a driving pony in the future with his brother Riker 😍 (p.s. the trike isn’t quite as close as it looks, Kit is out of kicking range 😬)

Couple of educational hacks today for the babies. Merida took Darcy out for more practice off the lead. She’s so clever and getting the idea even faster than Reggie so far.

With her went Peach for her very first walk out. Time to start getting a few gentle miles under her belt and getting her used to the trails and what she might run into now she’s 16 months old. She’s a busy little filly! Definitely got me striding out! But she was very good and quickly got the idea of standing up and not moving until told to walk on.

Next good old Reg went out with Remy, who was out for the very first time with his tack on. He’s opposite end of the scale to Peach, more woah than go! Which was a relief at that point in the day 😂

Both boys were marvellous. Reggie and Merida did some more canter work, and Remy remained steady and level-headed even with Reggie trotting off ahead of him out of sight, meeting dogs, and having Kit’s trike trundling along right behind him. He’s only 2 but shaping up to be a fabulous child’s companion. JJ can’t wait to be on him when the time comes. Remy has been JJ’s chosen since JJ was old enough to know what he was looking at 😍

We did plan to just do mucking off and ragworting this evening, but the kids had other ideas. Merida wanted to try a full hack in her side saddle, and so I said I’d take Riker along for the walk in his tack to see how he went, since, through one thing and another, one of them Riker himself being gelded during that time, Riker hasn’t been out since his very first hack way back in December. I did plan to just walk him after such a long break, but Caleb had other ideas and just went ahead and clambered straight back up into the saddle on the yard, and off we went!

Another day and more ponies! Another couple of fabulous hacks before the rain is supposed to set in this week. First was Darcy with 3yo Rio out learning the ropes and seeing the sights. Darcy was figuring out how to be off lead. She’s a smart mare. And towards the end of the ride, she popped a lovely jump over a log with Merida (of course we didn’t get it on camera 🤦‍♀️) Please forgive the state of Darcy’s forelock, we are planning to plait her for the shows this year rather than showing her as mountain and moorland where her loud splash white expression acts against her 😬 Little Rio was also fabulous, odds of Lemon the hobby horse 😂 He was a frisky devil!

Next ride was Robin with Reggie and Rainie out for their second rides this weekend. Reggie and Merida popped their first canter together! 🥳
