We’re putting together the final preparations for this week’s exciting ‘Festival of Change’.

There’ll be lots happening in the castle courtyard on Friday and Saturday for all ages, as we join with local organisations and community groups to hopefully inspire visitors to make a difference for wildlife and the environment.

Come and make a bird or bat box to install at home, make flower seed balls and recycled bird feeders, take part in creative workshops and join in storytelling sessions.

We’re also hosting a number of guest speaker talks throughout the two-day festival, which has been funded by The Richardson Brothers Foundation, including visitors from West Midlands Bird Club, Twycross Zoo, Dogs4Wildlife and the Universities of Birmingham and Leicester.

Plus, on Saturday, we’re running a conservation inspired clay model workshop with award-winning stop motion animator, Leo Wright and an early morning out of hours bird ringing demonstration.

Everything featured in the festival is included in general zoo admission, however, due to capacity, certain guest speaker talks and activities will require pre-booking on our website – and we encourage you to reserve your place so not to miss out.

Our open-air cinema nights are back for 2026, so come and join us this summer in the grounds of Dudley Castle, as we get set to screen two iconic movies!

We’ve once again teamed up with Birmingham-based Flatpack Festival to present the Beware the Moon events. Get ready for laughs and thrills on the evening of Friday 7th August with The Goonies showing in the castle courtyard. If classic horror is more your thing, we are showing A Nightmare on Elm Street on Saturday 8th August.

Tickets are priced £14 each and cinema goers are advised age restrictions will apply.

Doors will open each evening at 7.30pm, with the feature film beginning around 9.15pm.

There will be hot food and a licensed bar, but guests are welcome to bring their own refreshments - and don’t forget your camping chairs or blankets!

Both screenings will take place in the courtyard of the 11th century castle and will go ahead whatever the weather, so come prepared!

Join us for a walk on the wild-side at DZC and discover the native animals that come out to play once all of the visitors have gone home. The evening will include a 30 minute talk about native bat species, conservation and what we can do at home to help bats. This will be followed by a guided tour around site, using bat detectors to listen out for some of the 7 bat-species we have living wild on site.

If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of our resident badgers, foxes and deer too!

The next walk takes place on Saturday 13th June 2026, with more dates available throughout the summer. Click the link in the comments below to book.

Happy World Otter Day!

If you’re visiting us this , come and say hello to Keyah and Minnie, our Asian short-clawed otters – you’ll probably hear them before you see them!

Launched by the International Otter Survival Fund (IOSF), World Otter Day is dedicated to the conservation and protection of the 13 species of otter worldwide.
Classed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, Asian short-clawed otters are under threat by poaching and habitat destruction of their wetlands.

As part of our highlighting of EAZA’s Wetlands for Life Campaign, we’re also raising awareness about the essential role of wetlands to nature and what we can do to protect them.

This Love Your Zoo Week, Arctic foxes, Grace and Spruce and our bush dog family have been getting stuck in to some papier-mâché enrichment filled with delicious treats!

And none of them took long to rip through the heart-decorated globes to find the hidden food.

Food presented in a different way is simple enrichment used by our keepers for the animals in their care.

By hiding it in this way, the foxes and our dogs had to use their excellent sense of smell to track and discover the food.
