Brucella canis β Testing for imported dogs
To protect the health of our patients, clients and team members, our practice now strongly recommends Brucella canis testing for any dog that has:
β’ Been imported from a country where Brucella Canis is endemic*
β’ Mated with an imported dog
β’ Had contact with birthing materials from an imported dog
β’ Is the offspring of an imported dog
β’ That live at the same premises as an imported dog
*Endemic regions include parts of Eastern and Southern Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Brucella canis is a bacterial infection that can spread between dogs and in rare cases to humans. Many infected dogs show no symptoms, so testing is the only way to confirm infection and prevent transmission.
If your dog meets the above criteria, please contact us to arrange testing. This is a vital step in keeping our community safe and ensuring your dog receives appropriate care.
