Headed to on sunday with team and stepped out of our comfort zones big time. 😅😬

Charis and I chatted to about hydrotherapy and veterinary physiotherapy and how it can benefit most dogs post injury, surgery, old age, for prevention of injury and development conditions, and also for fitness.

Give either myself or centre a shout if you're interested in finding out how physiotherapy and hydrotherapy could benefit your pup!

Ever wondered what those colorful, bumpy mats are actually doing? 🐾✨

In this clip, we’re working on proprioception—and it is one of the most powerful, foundational tools we use in canine rehabilitation!

What is Proprioception?
Simply put, proprioception is your dog's "body awareness" or position sense. It is the constant communication loop between their joints, muscles, and brain that tells the body exactly where its limbs are in space, without needing to look at them.

Why Do We Use Proprioceptive Mats in Clinic?
When dogs experience joint stiffness, injury, aging, or neurological changes, that vital brain-to-paw connection can become a little "fuzzy." Introducing varied, textured surfaces like these mats helps by:

- Stimulating nerve endings in the paws to wake up and sharpen the nervous system.
- Enhancing balance and core stability as your dog gently adjusts to changing tactile feedback.
- Improving stride confidence, helping them feel much steadier and more secure on their feet.

Whether we are supporting a senior dog, aiding post-op recovery, or building functional strength, keeping that mind-body connection sharp is key to safe, confident movement! 💙

Here is your friendly reminder: aging is natural, but living in constant discomfort doesn't have to be.

If your dog is getting stiff after rest, taking shorter steps, or struggling with everyday movements, don't just put it down to 'old age'. There is so much we can do through veterinary physiotherapy, targeted pain relief, and bespoke exercise to keep them moving happily.

Aging isn't a disease, and slowing down is often a manageable sign of joint discomfort.

With early intervention, targeted modalities, and gentle home management, we can support your senior dog so they stay comfortable, steady, and independent.

Did you know September is Animal Pain Awareness Month? 🐶🐾

As owners, we naturally watch out for the obvious signs of discomfort, like a clear limp or a whimper. But dogs are masters at hiding pain, and chronic joint discomfort often shows up in much quieter ways.

Here are 3 subtle signs your dog might actually be in pain:
1️⃣ Hesitating before the stairs or sofa: Stopping to "think" before jumping usually means they are anticipating a painful impact.
2️⃣ Changing how they sit: Shifting to a "sloppy" sit with a leg tucked out to the side avoids bending a stiff joint.
3️⃣ Restlessness at night: Struggling to settle or constantly changing positions is a common sign of aching joints.

"Slowing down" doesn't have to be accepted as just getting old. Physiotherapy helps manage chronic discomfort so your dog can stay comfortable and active.

Vets are brilliant at diagnosing and managing pain. That's their job. But physiotherapy isn't always top of mind, especially if your dog's already on medication and seeming stable.

Here's the thing: pain relief and strength-building are two different things.

Medication can manage the pain. But it doesn't rebuild the muscle or restore the mobility your dog lost. That's where physio comes in. It's not competing with your vet, it's working alongside them.

The best outcomes I see are when owners work with their vet and a physio at the same time. Pain relief first. Strength second.

When a senior dog starts taking longer to stand up, hesitates before the car boot, or pauses halfway through their favourite walk, it is very easy to write it off as an inevitable part of ageing.

But "slowing down" is rarely just age—it is almost always a sign of underlying stiffness, muscle loss, or joint discomfort that can be managed.

Just because our dogs are entering their golden years doesn't mean they have to live in discomfort. With early intervention and gentle, consistent clinical care, we can:

🔹 Rebuild lost muscle symmetry.
🔹 Manage joint inflammation using targeted, non-invasive therapies like Laser & TECAR.
🔹 Adapt their daily exercise routines so they stay active safely.

Our goal for senior dogs isn't to turn back the clock to when they were two—it's to protect their quality of life, maintain their independence, and keep those priceless moments alive (like greeting you at the door with a wagging tail).

If your golden oldie is showing subtle signs of slowing down, don't just accept it as "old age." Reach out to us today to see how a bespoke rehabilitation plan can bring comfort back to their daily routine! 🐾

Did you know that carrying just a few extra hundred grams can add kilograms of extra pressure to your dog’s joint cartilage? 🐶😳

When our dogs start slowing down or moving a bit stiffly, our minds naturally jump to joint supplements or new beds. But one of the most powerful—and overlooked—ways we can support their mobility is managing their body condition. It isn't just about the physical "extra load" on their legs, either.

Science shows us that excess fat tissue actually secretes inflammatory chemical signals into the bloodstream. This means extra weight actively promotes systemic inflammation, making arthritic or sore joints feel even more uncomfortable.

As pet parents, we give treats out of pure love and there is zero shame or judgment here. But if your dog is recovering from an injury (like a cruciate tear) or managing joint stiffness, keeping them at a lean, healthy weight is one of the kindest gifts you can give their body.

When paired with a tailored Strength & Conditioning programme and targeted modalities like Winback TECAR or Laser Therapy, reducing joint strain allows them to move with far more comfort and freedom.

Is your dog struggling to get up after naps or taking shorter steps on walks? Send us a DM today—let’s chat about how a comprehensive physical assessment can help them!

If you have ever felt a knot of worry in your stomach when trying to remember how to do your dog's prescribed stretches or strength exercises at home, you are definitely not alone.

It is one of the most common worries pet owners share with us, and it comes from a place of pure love—you want to help them recover, not cause them extra discomfort.

After a physio session, trying to recall exact angles, repetitions, and posture cues from memory can feel daunting. That is precisely why we never expect you to rely on memory or hand-written notes!

To give you complete peace of mind, every patient receives a personalised home prescription through our specialised online exercise prescription software.

Here is how it protects your dog and supports you at home:

🎥 Video Demonstrations: Clear, step-by-step videos showing the exact exercise, technique, and tempo required.

📝 Custom Guidance: Explicit instructions on exact repetitions, sets, and rest times tailored specifically to your dog's current stage of recovery.

📱 Easy Digital Access: Access your dog's plan anytime from your phone, tablet, or laptop.

Home exercises are designed to be safe, gentle, and manageable. With guided digital support, you can feel 100% confident that you are helping your pet rebuild strength safely.
