After a rough few days of feeling poorly, I’m finally back out in the fresh air and trying to focus on something positive 🌿
So… the herb garden is expanding again!
I’m adding even more horse-friendly plants and herbs for the horses to forage from, giving them more choice, enrichment and natural variety in their day.
There’s something really grounding about planting things, watching them grow and knowing the horses will benefit from it too 🐴🌱
Small steps, fresh air and a bit of horsey purpose — just what I needed.

Todays thought 🤔

Right hind lameness… could the hind gut be involved?
Sometimes when a horse isn’t bringing a hind leg forward as freely as they should, we automatically think limb, back, pelvis or foot. But it’s also worth remembering that the digestive system can have a big effect on how the body moves and functions.
If the hind gut isn’t working as well as it should, discomfort or restriction through the internal organs can sometimes affect how freely the right hind can step under and work forward.
Things that can affect the hind gut include:
• Changes in diet
• Fluctuations in grass
• Weather changes
• Time of year
• Stress or routine changes
• Too much rich grass or not enough fibre
• Workload changes
This doesn’t mean every right hind lameness is digestive related, and lameness should always be checked properly by the right professional. But it is a good reminder to look at the whole horse, not just the leg.
Sometimes what looks like a movement issue can be the body telling us something deeper is going on.
The horse’s body is all connected — gut, posture, muscles, feet and movement all have to work together.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our vet talk on euthanasia this evening.
We really hope you found it informative, supportive and helpful, and that you came away with the answers, resources and confidence you need to make the kindest and most informed choices for your horse when the time comes.
It’s never an easy subject to talk about, but being prepared is one of the best things we can do as owners, so we can put our horse’s needs first when it matters most.
A big thank you to MBG Vets for supporting the evening and sharing such valuable knowledge with us.
Be the best owner you can be, even through the hardest decisions. 💛🐴
