Blowflies are on the rise🪰

Blowfly numbers are on the rise⚠️

The blowfly emergence forecast from SCOPS is showing that blowflies could be emerging soon in northern regions of England along with some parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland.

If shearing isn’t imminent, applying an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) such as CLiKZiN™ is a good option this time of year as it will protect sheep for 8-weeks.

Selekt Pumps🐄🐑👩🏻‍⚕️

Do you have a selekt pump? If so bring it to the practice on Wednesday 24th June for a service and make sure it’s working at its best.

CCN🐑

We’ve had a surge in cases recently so thought we’d do an update of what to look out for and how we can help.

CCN (cerebrocortical necrosis)/ PEM (polioencephalomalacia) is most commonly seen in weaned lambs between 4 and 8 months of age. Individual animals are affected after a dietary change or move to a new pasture.

Clinical signs:
• Blindness
• Isolated from group
• Star gazing
• Lying flat out
• Seizuring
• Death

Treatment includes high doses of intravenous thiamine (vitamin B ) and sheep should be able to stand again within 24 hours of treatment.

If you ever have any lambs showing similar signs, don’t delay! Give us a call as soon as possible for us to assess and start treatment for the best chance of full recovery!

Emma is at Driffield Showground today supporting the School Education day for Food and Farming. Over 1700 children from local schools attend to learn about our farming community. We are proud to be here, alongside a number of our clients, to teach them a little bit about what we do.
