💕 When The Grooming Salon Becomes Your Happy Place! 💕

Gorgeous little Cavapoo Isabel has been enjoying regular puppy grooming experiences with us at Wagtails of The Wolds , and we love seeing her confidence grow with every visit.

And these pictures pretty much says it all…

There she is, happily playing with a one of the salon toys, she really is making herself at home and learning that Wagtails is a happy, safe and fun place to be.

For us, puppy grooming isn’t just about getting a puppy looking gorgeous.

It’s about helping them become familiar with the salon, the sounds, smells, equipment and handling in a way that feels fun, relaxed and completely normal.

We’re also currently working with Isabel on one of those little areas that she’s still learning about - having her face trimmed with scissors.

She’s understandably a little wriggly when we get to this part, but that’s absolutely okay!

She’s still learning that standing calmly while we work around her face is just another part of being groomed.

We don’t rush her. We keep practising little by little, giving her time to understand what we’re asking of her and building those positive experiences along the way.

That’s the beauty of regular puppy grooming - we’re not expecting perfection from day one. We’re helping them learn.

For now, we’ll happily enjoy watching Isabel play, explore and make herself completely at home in the salon.

A Special First Visit for Delilah 💕

Yesterday was rather a special day for the adorable Delilah…she enjoyed her very first salon groom!

At six years old, Delilah’s not yet experienced the sights, sounds and pampering of a grooming salon before, so we wanted her first visit to be something really positive.

From the moment she arrived, Delilah took everything in her stride. Her bath, the dryer, her de-shedding treatment…and of course all of the attention she received…she absolutely loved it!

We gave her coat a lovely bath before carrying out a thorough de-shed, removing lots of that loose Frenchie hair, and dead skin, leaving her coat feeling super soft and beautifully shiny.

Of course, no French Bulldog pamper would be complete without paying special attention to those gorgeous little face folds.

We gently cleaned around her wrinkles, helping to keep the folds clean and comfortable.

But for us, the most important part of Delilah’s visit was seeing her enjoying herself!

A first salon experience can be a big deal for any dog, whatever their age, and seeing Delilah relax, enjoy her pampering and leave happy made her first visit extra special for us too.

🐾 A Little Barney Update ❤️

I realised it’s been a while since I’ve shared my own boy, so I thought it was time for a little Barney update.

Yesterday Barney had another re-staging ultrasound scan to keep a close eye on the a**l gland cancer he had removed a little while ago.

Thankfully, his results came back good!

It’s always a lovely feeling to hear that news, and we’re very grateful for it.

He’s also currently recovering from an ear infection, related to his allergies that he also suffers from, so at the moment he’s being a little extra cuddly - which, if I’m honest, I’m certainly not complaining about.

He’s enjoying plenty of rest, snuggles and a little extra attention while he gets himself back to normal.

Barney has been part of the Wagtails family for many years, and for those of you who know him, you’ll know he’s a very social boy to me. ❤️

So today, it’s simply a little update - and thankfully, a positive one. 🐾

Fresh, Fluffy & Fabulous - Meet Alice…

There’s something rather special about a freshly groomed Labradoodle, and Alice certainly didn’t disappoint.

After her groom, Alice’s coat was looking and feeling beautifully soft, fluffy and fresh.

Labradoodle coats can vary enormously - some are more like a Labrador, some have tighter Poodle-style curls, and others sit somewhere beautifully in between.

Whatever type of coat they have, regular grooming is important to help prevent tangles and keep the coat comfortable and manageable.

And of course, there’s always that satisfying moment when the groom is finished, the coat and ears are fluffed up and your dog looks a few inches taller. 😀

Alice is always a delight to have in the salon and we can’t wait to see her again soon. 🤍 🐾

Grooming Ted, His Way…🐾

Ted is a gorgeous 12-year Red Fox Labrador who came to see us yesterday at Wagtails of The Wolds where we treated him to a de-shedding groom to remove built up dead skin and loose hair.

At 12, Ted has arthritis, which means standing for long periods of time can be difficult for him and his feet can be affected by his stiff, arthritic joints. So, as always at Wagtails, Ted’s comfort came first.

Rather than expecting Ted to stand throughout his groom, we worked completely at his pace. He spent most of his groom lying down and resting his joints, and we only asked him to stand when we needed access to those areas we couldn’t reach while he was lying comfortably.

It’s amazing how much hair we removed from his coat. The de-shedding treatment left Ted feeling wonderfully soft, considerably less hairy and, best of all, he went home with a lovely little bounce in his step. 🤍

For older dogs, grooming isn’t just about how they look when they leave us - it’s about making the whole experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible.

We’re looking forward to welcoming Ted back for his next visit, when he’ll be enjoying one of our de-shedding mud bath and massage treatments. 🐾 🤍 🐶

Meet Milo - The Handsome Red Fox Labrador 🦊

Milo joined us at Wagtails of The Wolds for his very first professional salon groom and what a gorgeous boy he is!

This handsome Red Fox Labrador came in for one of our de-shedding grooms, and he was an absolute star from start to finish.

Labradors have a double coat, their soft, dense undercoat helps them in both warm and cold weather, while the outer coat helps protect them from the elements.

It also means they can be surprisingly talented at leaving little clouds of hair everywhere.

A professional de-shed isn’t about removing the coat - it’s about helping the coat do its job properly.

We gently remove the loose, dead compacted undercoat that is ready to come out, helping reduce shedding around the home while leaving the healthy coat intact.

Regular de-shedding can also help keep the coat more comfortable and manageable, reduce loose hair and help us spot any little skin of coat changes that might otherwise be hidden beneath all that fluff.

And for a Labrador like Milo, it’s a particularly satisfying job!

And for his first ever salon experience, Milo took everything in his stride and was such a lovely boy to groom. We thinks he looks rather handsome!

🤍 From Tiny Puppies to Wagtails Family 🤍

Oati and Pumpkin are two very special Wagtails regulars - they’ve been coming to see us for years, right from when they were tiny puppies. 🤍 🐾

Yesterday, with the extreme heatwave upon us, these two were treated to the full works.

This included, a lovely relaxing bath using our deep cleansing organic shampoo and conditioner to remove dust and sticky buds followed by a full groom taking their coats a little shorter to make it more manageable, followed by an ultrasonic teeth clean to keep those teeth and gums healthy finished off with a nail trim to keep their feet and joints in good health too.

A groom at this time of the year isn’t just about looking lovely.

Removing coats and thinning it out can help them feel more comfortable in the heat, while keeping their coats clean, manageable and free from those sticky buds that seem to find their way into absolutely everything.

After all the years, it’s still such a pleasure to see these two bounce into the salon.

From tiny puppies to the gorgeous duo they are today, we love being part of their grooming journey and hearing all about their adventures.💕 🐾

🎀 Meet Amore 🎀

Amore is a beautiful long-haired Chihuahua who is a regular here at Wagtails of The Wolds and she recently joined us for her de-shed and scissor groom.

With the hot weather we’ve been having lately, this was a particularly useful visit for her.

The de-shed treatment removed a lot of loose, dead hair from Amore’s coat, leaving it lighter, fresher and much more manageable - helping her feel more comfortable in the heat.

Long-haired Chihuahuas may be small, but there’s plenty of beautiful coat to look after.

Amore is such a gorgeous little character, and we always love seeing her. 🥰🐶🐾

🐾 Tiny Paws, Big Milestones! 🩵

Little Fleefer joined us at Wagtails of The Wolds for his second puppy groom, and it’s lovely to see his confidence growing with each visit.

It can be thought that because a puppy is tiny, grooming may be easier. In reality, little dogs can be just as challenging as their larger friends.

Their delicate size means we work gently, patiently and at their pace, helping them build confidence while making every visit a positive experience.

Fleefer took everything in his stride and enjoyed plenty of fuss and reassurance along the way.

He’s growing into such a lovely little boy with a beautiful coat to match. We can’t wait to wait him flourish in over the coming months. 🥰🐶🐾

Harper’s Happy Grooming Visit 💕

Beautiful Harper the Cockapoo recently joined us at Wagtails of The Wolds and we were so grateful to receive lovely instructions from Harper’s mum about the look she would like us to create.

Taking the time to understand each owner’s wishes means we can work together to achieve the result that everyone is happy with - and we loved being able to bring Harper’s groom to life.

We were also told that Harper isn’t always the biggest fan of being groomed, so our biggest goal was to make her visit a positive one - filled with patience, gentle handling, reassurance, and plenty of fuss along the way.

It was such a pleasure to see Harper relax and enjoy her time with us.

Seeing a dog leave feeling happy and confident is just as rewarding as creating a beautiful finish.

Every dog is different, and that’s what makes our job so special. We can’t wait to welcome Harper back for more Wagtails adventures. 🐶🐾🤍
