‼️Important Information‼️

If you arrive to the kennels in the morning prior to opening at 10am please message us on 07909923760 to advise which dog you have travelled to visit and your car registration.
**Please message ONLY once you have arrived**

This helps us keep the page up to date for those travelling, thank-you.

‼️Important information ‼️

We have added dogs to the page today who are ‘popular’ and therefore visitors may travel early to wait at the kennels prior to opening for the best chance at being first to meet a particular dog (if suitable).

If travelling to the kennels through the night/early morning please:
>Do not park at the gates of the kennels, the car park is opposite and open
>Keep noise to an absolute minimum
>Do not slow down/stop outside residential properties
>If stretching your legs please take a right out of the car park gate and walk the part of the road with no residential properties

As always we will keep the page as up to date as possible in the morning to advise who is waiting and avoid unnecessary travel. If we are busy with face to face visitors it is unlikely we will be able to answer the phone so please keep an eye on the page for updates.

Thanks for your ongoing support 🐾

✅To consider before travelling✅

1. Have you read the dog’s description?
>Are you aware of the needs of the breed?
>If it states ‘experience’ do you have adequate experience with the breed?
>Do you understand the specific needs of the individual dog?

2. Are you prepared to give the dog LOTS of time to settle in a new home, routine, environment and with new people? We are talking about MONTHS not hours/days.
>If you have an existing dog in the home are you experienced and willing to take the time to settle them together? Again, this can be MONTHS not hours/days.

We really appreciate everyone who visits and those who offer wonderful homes to the dogs in our care. However, this is a huge commitment and time is the biggest investment you can make with a new dog.
When a dog is rehomed and returned this really affects the dog and further unsettles them. It also sadly leaves them more difficult to rehome as potential adopters are wary of dogs who have been returned. In most instances issues will be resolved given time.

Thanks as always for your continued support 🐾

**We are a council dog pound and we work very hard to do the best for dogs in our care despite limited funding**

**Home Checks**
We do not complete home checks as there is no funding or resources provided for this. If we are concerned about a particular person or dog we can ask the dog warden to complete a home check prior to rehoming but there is no capacity for the dog warden to complete a large volume of these as they have their normal workload and duties.
ID is taken from each person wishing to rehome a dog, the dog is then microchipped and licenced to the person supplying ID.
We have been doing this for 23 years, we DO NOT just hand a dog out to someone who isn’t suitable even if they are the first person there, many visitors are guided and even refused where necessary when they are unsuitable for a particular dog.

**Spaying/neutering**
We complete spays/neuters when we are provided with funding to do so. This has kindly been provided by Dogs Trust in recent years. When dogs are spayed/neutered under our care they can be rehomed immediately unless our vet advises to hold them due to medical issues. The scheme is not perfect but it has allowed many dogs to be spayed/neutered that otherwise wouldn’t of been and from that perspective it has been a massive success. We feel many dogs recover better in a home than in kennels and for this reason do not hold dogs longer than necessary.

❗️**Facebook comments**❗️
Derogatory comments made against the kennels and/or their processes/policies will not be tolerated. We do the best we can in a very challenging environment and DO NOT have the time to debate with commenters on Facebook about the reasons we do things the way we do especially when they can’t even take time to read the page to establish we are a dog pound. Therefore any derogatory comments around home checks, spaying, etc. will result in the user facing a permanent ban from the page.
