📣 A little practice update

Just a quick note to let our lovely clients know that Stan and Dalya are currently taking a well-deserved holiday and will be returning during the week commencing 24th August. 🐾

This means we will not be able to accommodate requests to see or speak with Stan or Dalya specifically during this time. While they’re away, our team will be working hard to look after everyone as usual, but we expect to be busier than normal. We therefore kindly ask for your patience and understanding if things take a little longer than usual.

As the sunny weather continues, another warning to watch out for adders! We've seen two cases so far this summer, and are pleased to report that both dogs have recovered without developing any of the more dangerous symptoms!

While AI helped with the layout because I'm terrible at making articles look pretty, the words and photos are ours, we're not about to start relying on ChatGPT for medical advice :)

And no, Milo has not had any snake bites so far (keep it up Milo!), but his photo is super cute and needed showing off!

As this lovely hot weather spell continues, here is a DIY special treat for our feathered friends: chicken ice lollies!

Chop up some fruit and veg* into a bowl, cover with water, freeze it, and then pop it out of the bowl for your chickens to enjoy! Works well for rabbits and guinea pigs too! Our girls loved their ice lollies, but they made Cassian the rooster "vet" them first 😂 And there may have been a fight for the strawberries, but we all know the first rule of Fight Club, so this is unconfirmed 😂. Honestly, chickens are little velociraptors.

*Please remember that in the UK chickens are not allowed to be fed anything that has been in a human kitchen, so the ingredients either need to be grown in your garden/allotment, or you can pick some dandelions and clover, or even just add grass!

With the extreme weather forecast. for next week let's keep our pets safe. The risk of heat stress to dogs has been well publicised but rabbit get heat stress above 22C. Please look at the tips from RWAF to keep your buns safe.

It’s that time again 🌾

We are seeing more and more cases of grass seed injuries in dogs now the weather is warming up. They may look harmless but they can easily become lodged in your dog’s paws, ears, nose or skin causing pain and sometimes infection.

Lovely Vera visited us recently with a very painful ear. On examination, we found a grass seed lodged down there which needed to be removed.

⚠️ Signs to watch for include:
• Excessive licking or chewing of feet
• Redness, swelling, or sores between toes
• Limping or reluctance to walk
• Persistent head shaking
• Scratching at the ears
• Painful, sensitive, or inflamed ears

🐕 Prevention tips:
• Check paws and ears after every walk
• Pay extra attention to long-haired dogs
• Keep fur around paws neatly trimmed
• Avoid areas with long, dry grass where possible

If you notice any of these signs, don’t delay in getting your pet checked. Grass seeds can migrate through tissue and become much more difficult to find and remove if left untreated.

A place to remember 🌳🌈

We just wanted everyone to be aware of our new Pet Memorial Tree located in our quiet room/zen den in reception. If you have lost a pet, whether that be recently or many years ago, you are warmly invited to take a wooden leaf, write your pets name on it and add it to our tree🍃

We also have a memorial book where you can write a special message, draw a picture or share your favourite memory of your beloved pet💭

Our memorial tree is open to all members of the clinic, and we hope it becomes a beautiful tribute to the pets who have touched our lives and will always hold a special place in our hearts❤️
