I’ve got a few dogs diagnosed with luxating patella/patellae. This is a fantastic video and explanation to show how it all works (or should work).

A quick heads-up for local dog owners ⚠️

We've been made aware of a possible report of blue-green algae in the stream flowing from Sherborne Castle Lake. At this stage, this has not yet been confirmed, but we wanted to share this information so you can take a little extra care when out walking your dog.

Blue-green algae can be harmful to dogs if they drink contaminated water or lick it from their fur after swimming. With the current dry weather, reports of blue-green algae are becoming more common.

If you're out walking:

💧 Avoid letting your dog drink from ponds, lakes or slow-moving streams if the water looks discoloured or has a green, blue-green or scummy appearance

🐕 Take fresh water with you so your dog has a safe alternative to drink

🧼 If your dog has been in natural water, rinse them with clean water if possible and discourage them from licking their coat until they're dry

If your dog becomes unwell after being around natural water - particularly if they develop vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness, tremors or collapse - please contact us immediately.

We'll share any confirmed updates as we receive them. In the meantime, there's no need to avoid walks altogether - just be a little more cautious around natural water sources.
