Do you know what to do if your dog is injured in the field? Or collapses on a walk? Or gets stung and starts reacting badly?

Most of us don't. And hoping you'll figure it out in the moment isn't a plan.

On 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿, we're hosting an accredited Canine First Aid Course at Upton Rugby Club, delivered by 𝗕𝗧𝗖 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗼. - run by a Registered Veterinary Nurse with hands-on veterinary practice experience.

This isn't a sit-and-watch session. It covers both 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 work throughout the day, so you leave with skills you can actually use. 𝗟𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱 - so just turn up ready to learn.

Every week at the club, somebody's standing there saying the same thing.
"𝐇𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐧. 𝐍𝐨𝐰 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐧'𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐥𝐥."

And they mean it. It genuinely did work in the garden.

Here's the thing - the retrieve isn't one behaviour. It's four. And most handlers, without realising it, are only practising two of them.

The garden's a small space. You're close. Nothing interesting going on. Then you get to a field with smells and other dogs and a breeze coming off somewhere interesting - and suddenly you're the least interesting thing out there.

That's not a bad dog. That's a dog doing exactly what dogs do.

Richard trained with us and went from novice right through to representing the club at national competition level. Same process. Same method. His spaniel now works regularly on local shoots. "A spaniel with a lot of drive that is controllable in all situations." That's what building it properly looks like.

Your dog isn't broken. It just needs you to be clearer, more consistent, and a bit more interesting than the smell in the grass.
