𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 is an important part of keeping your horse healthy and protecting other horses around them. But do you know what your horse’s vaccination schedule should look like?

Vaccination helps to:
🐴𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 unnecessary illness and suffering
💷 𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒆 the risk of unexpected veterinary costs
🏇 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒕 your horse’s ability to work and compete
🚫𝑹𝒆𝒅𝒖𝒄𝒆 the risk of yard closures and cancelled events
🦠 Help 𝑷𝒓𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒏𝒕 the spread of infectious disease.

💉 𝗙𝗟𝗨 & 𝗧𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗨𝗦 𝗩𝗔𝗖𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗠𝗠𝗘
𝐕𝟏 – First vaccination:
From 5 months of age
𝐕𝟐 – Second vaccination:
21–60 days after V1
𝐕𝟑 – First booster:
120–180 days after V2

Ongoing boosters:
Every 6 or 12 months, depending on your sport’s requirements, and always within 365 days of the previous vaccination.

🏆𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗚? 𝗗𝗢𝗡'𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝟳-𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝗥𝗨𝗟𝗘!
⏰ After any flu or tetanus vaccination, your horse 𝐦𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭 𝟕 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 or entering event stables — meaning they can return on Day 8.

⚠️ A horse cannot compete after just V1. They must have completed the required primary course and waited the appropriate period before competing.

🏡 𝗪𝗛𝗔𝗧 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗔𝗧 𝗛𝗢𝗠𝗘?
We recommend giving your horse 24–48 hours of rest following vaccination before gradually returning to light exercise. Avoid strenuous work immediately after vaccination.

📋 𝗧𝗼𝗽 𝘁𝗶𝗽: Competition rules can vary between governing bodies, so always check the vaccination requirements for your particular sport or event.
Keeping vaccinations up to date is a simple but important part of responsible horse care. 💚🐴

💚 Emerald Equine Vets are delighted to be hosting another Gastroscope & Back Radiograph Clinic, giving horse owners the opportunity to investigate common issues that could be affecting their horse's comfort and performance.

⚠️ Many horses show subtle signs of pain that can easily be overlooked or attributed to behaviour. Problems such as gastric ulcers and kissing spines often produce very similar symptoms, making further investigation invaluable.

If your horse has been showing any of the following, now is the perfect opportunity to have them assessed:

✅️ Horses must be up to date with flu and tetanus vaccinations.
✅️ For gastroscopy, food should be withheld for 14 hours and water for 3 hours before the procedure.
