Distraction Course - this week preparations for a vet visit.
Owning a dog guarantees you will need to visit a vet at some point in their lives. Whether it be for vaccinations, fleaing, worming, weighing, health checks, illnesses, injuries, neutering etc.
Vet visits are guaranteed.
However how much thought and preparation do we put into getting our dogs ready for such vet visits.
The majority of people don't give it a second thought to prepare.
However if you make the time and prepare your dogs for the guaranteed vets visits one day you will make their whole experience so much better.
Starting with entering the vets - door control, then usually weighing, then sitting safely in the waiting area until called. Now in the vets room often meeting a stranger vet, then being put on the table, then being handled and possibly injected or having ears or teeth checked etc.
All these areas need careful thought and preparation to give our dogs the best experience we possibly can at the 'scary vets'.

Sunday! Funday!
Tossing treats in the pool is a great way to keep your dogs longer in the cool water, and helps keep them hydrated as they lap up the treats they take in some water 💦 too. 🐶

Let's see photos of your dogs enjoying themselves in their pools.

A great simple way to ensure your dog 🐕 is drinking enough water in regulated quantities. A dog bowl with a shallow amount of water on the bottom and treats/food on top. When the dog 🐶 gets the treats they lap up water at the same time.
Or if your dog 🐕 prefers they can take out a dried sprat and roll on it. 😂🤣 Whatever makes them happy 🤣😂.
Have a go at this fun activity.

Today was much cooler than yesterday at 18⁰c at 9am.
However that can still be too warm for older dogs, flat faced breeds, over weight dogs, puppies, thick double-coated breeds so you still need to take extra care 🐶.
This morning Ivy had a lovely shorter than normal walk due to the weather, with her doggy friend Yogi who is a 12 year old French Bulldog who is at a higher risk of heat stroke due to breed and age.
So they had a short walk to the shaded woods for a short time off leads under the cool umbrella of the trees and bushes. There were several drinking water stops and a refreshing cool down with the water remaining. However many people chose the woods as a sensible option to walk their dogs this morning when usually I see no one. So keeping vigilant looking ahead is my job as the majority of people were oblivious to my approach until I called my dogs back in to put them back on lead, only then did the other people do the same.
So please remember if your dog is out of sight you don't know what they will encounter or know if they are safe. Also please be courteous and call your dogs back to you and put them on a lead for a few minutes whilst you pass on narrow paths. Also don't forget to be observant as you can only control your own dog not someone else's.

Please take extra care if you are traveling to the training centre today.
Luckily the training centre is cooler than most homes so they will be safe indoors.
However whilst travelling in the car, put the Aircon on or portable fan, stick on window blinds and fresh cool water for when they arrive.
Photo for attention.

Look at this photo edited by AI and remember how your dog 🐶 feels when you walk them in the heat.🔥🌞 I've been kind and added boots on the dogs to intensify the heat, however in reality they walk with bare 🐾 paws on extremely 🔥 pavements.
Your dog 🐶 won't die from missing a walk but walking them in this heat 🔥 might.😞
Please SHARE this post to help people realise the dangers of walking their dogs in this heat.

*Above 20⁰c (68⁰f), some dogs can begin struggling in exercise.
*Above 24⁰c (75⁰f), walks can become risky, especially puppies, older dogs, and flat faced breeds like French Bulldogs, Pugs etc.
*Above 28⁰c (82⁰f), dogs are at high risk of heat stroke.
*Pavements can burn paws 🐾 even when air temperature is only 25⁰f (77⁰f).
*Dogs overheat fast because they cool mainly by panting.
*'WARNING ⚠️ SIGNS', heavy panting, drooling, wobbling, vomiting, or collapse.
*Never leave dogs in parked cars- temperatures can become deadly within minutes.

Please keep your dogs safe. 🐶
