Minsterley Show 🐐

Another brilliant goat showcase, bringing together goat owners, breeders and enthusiasts to help celebrate and promote all things GOAT!

A huge thank you to the Horsehay goat team for all the hard work they put into promoting goats, getting us altogether and making these showcases happen, and to every goat owner who brought their animals along and helped create such a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

It’s so important that we keep getting goats out there, showcasing the different breeds, what they can do and why they deserve their place in British agriculture and conservation. There is a breed out there for everyone.

New patch, new job for the Large Blacks 🐷

They’ve been moved onto their next bit of ground, where they’ll be doing what pigs do best ! Rooting, turning the soil and helping clear the land naturally.

Using livestock as part of land management is nothing new. Native and rare breeds have a valuable role to play in conservation, helping us manage habitats in a way that works with nature rather than against it.

It’s not just about keeping rare breeds for the sake of it, it’s about finding a purpose for them and showing just how useful these old breeds can still be.

A spa for the goats 🐐

Dust bathing helps keep their coats in good condition, can reduce external parasites, and is just one of the many natural behaviours they should be able to express.

Our rare breed English and Old English goats spend their days browsing, climbing, grazing and, when the weather is right, enjoying a good dust bath. Watching them behave as nature intended is one of the best parts of keeping these native goats.

Protecting rare breeds isn’t just about preserving genetics, it’s about giving them the opportunity to thrive and do what they’ve evolved to do.

When you picture a farmer, who do you see?

For many, it still isn’t an ex city girl with an 8-month-old on her hip between feeding animals, being a goat midwife, checking livestock and welcoming campers, and caring for some of Britain’s rarest native breeds.

Farming doesn’t have one look.

This is , better late than never! We are celebrating the people behind British farming and showing that every farm has a different story.

Here at Fur & Fleece, we’re proud to play our part in protecting Britain’s native livestock. From our rare English and Old English goats, large black pigs, to conservation grazing in our ancient woodlands, every day is about preserving breeds, restoring habitats, and proving that small farms can make a big difference.
