🚑 At Cherry Tree Vets, we’re prepared for more than just pet emergencies! 🐾

We’re delighted to say that ALL members of the Cherry Tree Vets team are trained Emergency First Aiders. ❤️

Veterinary practices are busy places, and sometimes it isn’t the animal who suddenly needs our help. A customer may faint while waiting on a hot day, someone may receive a bite or scratch from a particularly feisty patient, a medical condition could unexpectedly escalate, or someone could simply trip or fall.

Whatever happens, we want our team to have the confidence and training to step in, assess the situation and provide first aid until further help is available if needed.

From our vets and nurses to our reception and support teams, we’re all hands-on and ready to help.

Because when it comes to the safety of our patients, our clients and members of the public, we can never be too prepared. ❤️

And apparently the training wasn’t restricted to the humans… 😹

Our surgery cat took his CPR training very seriously and proved to be an exceptionally good patient. What a good boy! 🐱🫀😂

🐱💛 Happy International Cat Day! 💛🐱

Today we’re celebrating our fabulous feline friends — the independent, curious, affectionate (and occasionally mischievous!) members of our families. 🐾

From purrs and head bumps to zoomies and the occasional “I definitely didn’t knock that over” moment, cats bring so much joy into our lives. 🥰

International Cat Day is also a lovely reminder to give your cat a little extra TLC today. ❤️

🐾 Keep their vaccinations and parasite protection up to date
🐾 Encourage regular health checks, especially as they get older
🐾 Look out for changes in eating, drinking, toileting or behaviour
🐾 Give them plenty of love, playtime and their favourite treats!

And remember — cats are experts at hiding when something isn’t quite right, so regular veterinary checks can help us spot potential problems early. 🩺🐈

Give your cat an extra cuddle from all of us today! 😻

📸 We’d love to see your purr-fect companions! Share a photo of your cat in the comments below. 👇🐾

🩸🐱 A dog’s blood… saved a cat’s life! 🐶❤️🐱

Meet Oti, a brave one-year-old cat who arrived at Cherry Tree Vets after suffering multiple pelvic fractures. Before she could undergo the complex surgery needed to repair her injuries, she urgently required a blood transfusion.

With no feline blood donor immediately available, one of our amazing team members didn’t hesitate—she rushed home to collect her own dog, who kindly became an emergency blood donor.

Yes… you read that correctly!

In exceptional, life-threatening situations, a xenotransfusion (using canine blood for a cat) can provide a temporary but potentially life-saving bridge, buying precious time until surgery can be performed. While this isn’t something we do routinely, it is a recognised emergency procedure when every minute counts.

We’re delighted to say that Oti’s surgery went smoothly, and she is making an excellent recovery.

And before anyone asks…

No, she isn’t barking… yet! 🐶😸

A huge thank you to our incredible team for thinking quickly, working together, and going the extra mile to give Oti the very best chance.

We wish Oti a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her back on all four paws again! 💙

🐾 FOUND A DOG OR CAT? THANK YOU FOR HELPING! 🐾

Firstly, thank you. ❤️

Every year, kind members of our community help reunite lost pets with their families, and we truly appreciate everyone who stops to help.

We’d like to explain how our out-of-hours emergency service works, so you know the quickest way to get a found pet home.

🐶 If the pet appears healthy:
• Your local Council Dog Warden is usually the best first point of contact. They can scan for a microchip and help reunite pets with their owners.
• We also have a fantastic local community group in Diss whose volunteers are often happy to help with microchip scanning. We’ll be sharing their details soon.

🚑 If the pet is injured, unwell or in immediate distress:
Please contact us straight away. Our emergency veterinary team is here 24 hours a day to provide urgent medical care for animals that need it.

☎️ If you call us out of hours about a found pet:
Our reception and triage team (Moneypenny) will take your details and pass a message to the on-call vet. The vet will then decide whether they are able to assist, depending on the clinical emergencies they are dealing with at the time.

As an emergency veterinary practice, our first priority must always be sick and injured animals. Whilst we would love to help every found pet personally, we are unfortunately not able to provide a routine out-of-hours microchip scanning or stray holding service.

Thank you again for looking after the animals in our community. Working together, we can give lost pets the best chance of getting safely back home. 🏡❤️
