Finally got around to making a Mutts & Mops rainbow album for my girl Gypsy. Her family approached me yeeears ago when they first adopted her, and seemed very apprehensive... She was the sweetest thing at home, very calm and loving, even/especially when they had a new baby! They needed someone to walk her during the work day, but she was very temperamental when out on walks - super reactive, and would start fights with other dogs. I spent a lot of time hiding in bushes with her while other dogs went past. But she was so happy to be out, super fast, easily engaged with games and sticks and treats.
Eventually with Uncle Floyd, bestie Didz, and her other doggy friends (her relationship especially with Bronte the cocker spaniel was just the best thing I ever witnessed) we got her super confident and all her reactivity and stress disappeared. She did, however, approach everything with full energy - nothing was not done at full speed, including grabbing sticks, flying over huge logs... Dog most likely to have a boot on, staples in a paw pad, or a cone of shame 🤣 One day I had to rush her to the car and off to the nearest vet when she barge-rushed a barbed wire fence at full speed. She bled all over my van, there was so much of it... But she bounced back! Oh my days. The only time I have been more worried about a dog in my care was that time Rosie ate her owners' 2 huge bars of Lindt 85%. She was also a black greyhound. Lordy dordy.
Love you Gypsy girl

Another one of our M&M family, one of our original customers Dood, has left us and gone to the rainbow bridge.
He was already pretty much grown up when he joined his family, and he was very very energetic and huge and cloudlike and hilarious from the start. He fit in so well with us, and even though he stopped coming for walkies with us, he was still excited to hear our van when we visited. The original gang are all old or departed now, but I still think about them all. Loads of tears for Doodles and his family today, but smiling at the memories. 🌈

I keep seeing dog trainers doing content about behaviour issues and I just had a sudden thought.

It’s not always your fault, by the way, that your dog has a behavioural issue.

I keep seeing loads of content about how you are doing this wrong and that wrong and how you aren’t prioritising certain things over others and you are too weak or love your dogs too much or other ridiculous ideas.

Behaviour is not so black and white.

Animals are not lego sets that you build to specific instructions and they turn out perfect and if you don’t it’s because you didn’t read the instructions properly.

Behaviour is hard, multifaceted and individual.

Behaviour is a mix of genetics, epigenetics and environmental factors.

Behaviour can be caused by pain or medical issues

Behaviour can be caused by processes of conditioning, intentional or not.

Behaviour can just be because it is.

Yes, sometimes people can cause behavioural issues in their dog but no judgement. You did what you thought was best with the knowledge you had.

Most of the time this isn’t the case.

Assigning blame is not helpful. Weird advice like you can’t teach a reactive dog tricks because your priorities aren’t right and you should only care about reactive behaviour is ridiculous. Blaming owners and their love for their dogs is disgusting.

Your dog is a unique individual and not a single one of them is completely perfect. ❤️

Love them anyway ❤️

Stupid MegaRona. I'm so fed up. As we are all in Tier 4 I've decided I'm going to close for another couple of weeks, and then reassess the situation. I hope to get back to work soon, cuz I will miss seeing my lovely customers.

Happy new year I guess?
