This sweet little lady came in, and unfortunately she has a, what I call cotton candy coat, super fluffy, thicker and it is a hard combination coat of the cocker spaniel and poodle to maintain.

Cockapoos are a mixed breed and their coat types vary so much, it is advised to brush once a day for good maintenance BUT some cockapoos have a coat texture which doesn’t require brushing this often and they will not tangle and Matt but others will tangle and constantly be tangly and knotty. Cockapoos are very different from each other depending which coat they favour more of.

Matting can happen quickly and once it’s set in it’s very hard to brush out and it’s all assessed through the welfare act, meaning a clip off is often the only way for a refresh and restart with the coat.

There is no judgement by myself with cases of matting, the most important thing is the dogs are coming in, the owners understand and we get the dog refreshed, clipped down and we book regular grooming appointments and communicate what they can do at home for maintenance and what brushes should be used.

Please please do not hesitate to contact Bark and Boujee especially if you are aware of matting on your dog, be open and honest and we can assess the coat and our options, but my overall decision is always based on what is best for the dogs welfare.
