Well its been a busy couple of weeks ,and thank goodness its been a bit cooler ,it was a very sad day for me on Wednesday as it was my last walk with one of my lovely labradors ,nothing has happened to him ,just his owners circumstances have changed, he was my mr Darcy and I truly thought the world of him ,he is an absolute credit to his owners ,photos of the last two weeks dogs

Sorry I havnt done any posts recently ,if im honest social media and photos are really not my strong point ,but i do try ,its been a busy couple of weeks ,we took our two boys to Yorkshire for a week and they did us proud ,then home for a week and now in the middle of an eleven night house sit ,looking after two boys who I truly adore ,but i do miss my own family .
On our daily walks we have met a collie ,I also met him last year as well and boy does he have every collie quirk ( im being polite ) ,we have a collie and i have hung my head in shame many times ,absolutely fabulous dogs and i know for sure that the Harris household will always be home to a collie and a terrier of some description ,but it got me thinking about when im asked if I will walk a reactive dog ,its a tough one ,as I always explain to people im not a dog trainer ,but if I feel a dog needs help I will always try my best ,I have a little check list
1 do you have the services of an excellent trainer ,if you havnt I know one
2 have you sort out help from a behaviourist ,if you havnt I know an excellent one
3 one meet and greet is never enough if your dog is anxious and fearful it needs to really get to know me ,this is when my business head comes off and I remember struggling with one of our dogs ,so one free meet and great goes out of the window ,sometimes it takes four visits with the owner present also I like to go with the owner when they walk the dog
4 Now the big question am I confident with the dog ,if the answer to that question is no ,its better to say this than add to a unhappy dogs problem
So yes I will and do walk reactive dogs ,but its done with really close consultation with the owners ,and the dogs happiness and welfare comes before my business

Well its been a normal week at last ,lots of lovely dogs and its been cooler ,im now closing the business for a week ,as im spending time with my husband and my dogs ,any messages and enquiries will be answered on my first day back Tuesday the 1st of September .a few photos of the skyline this week

As followers of my page and business know ,im NOT a dog trainer and i absolutely dont pretend to be but in my working life im so lucky to at times to work with two excellent trainers ,and this morning a conversation came back to me about dogs barking ,and obviously you cant have dogs barking continously ,but we seem to have become obsessed with it ,and even one bark seems to be to much ,but the other day the conversation was about ,they are communicating as only they can ,this morning my terrier thought someone was outside our gate so he really barked ( if you have ever owned a terrier you know they are not known for being quiet 😀 ) ,i nearly went to tell him to be quiet ,but stopped in my tracks and remembered the conversation also I remember my lovely dad saying about our terriers when I lived at home ,well thats a really good house dog ,letting you know there is someone around ,your dog doesn't know through a brick wall whether they are friend or foe the other side ,my dad was a wise country man who lived a simple life with a parade of terriers who were never any bother ,but they were as he put it good house dogs .

Well i really cant believe im having to say this ,but as from midday today untill Monday morning Harris's hounds is closed ,I really cant walk dogs in these extreme heat conditions ,most of my owners are at home so no need for drop ins ,I have tried to juggle the dogs around and tried to do earlier walks ,but due to other commitments that i have in the mornings its not easy ,this is not a moan as many businesses are suffering as well .
One thing I have discovered is a wonderful toy that I have used in garden visits ,some of my labs are a bit rough and tumble with treat toys ,but they really enjoyed playing with these and they are still in one piece ,they are made by DOTTYS TOYS ,which are available at the dereham dog academy and are so reasonably priced ,they are a treat ball on a rope

Well its been a lot better weather wise this week just a bit of a juggling game Monday and Tuesday, I have a permanent thursday spot available at lunch time ,as you know if i already walk or look after your dogs ,I take every care of them and always try to go above and beyond to meet their needs ,my prices are ,£10 for half an hour and £15 for an hour ,pease dont hesitate to contact me if I can help .
