Trailblazers Dressage Championships 2026 🏆🤎

Well Sidney… what can I say? 🥹

I had the absolute pleasure of buying you at a really dark, low point in my life. Since then, it certainly hasn’t all been sunshine and roses. Through all the ups and downs in my personal life, and all the ups and downs in our partnership (Lord knows there have been a few in both over the past 10 years!) you have been there.

And this week, my boy, you absolutely smashed it. ❤️

I know to some, our results on paper might not look like much. And yes, it’s “only” an unaffiliated show. But I genuinely couldn’t care less, because I know just how much went into getting us here.

You loaded like a dream, travelled over three hours each way in the box, settled into four days away from home, behaved impeccably at the show and took absolutely everything in your stride. You gave me your all every time I got on.

And then, on our final day, you went and placed in both of our sections. 🥹

🏅 10th – Prelim

Two prize givings. Two rosettes. And one very, very proud horse mom. My heart could genuinely burst. ❤️

I’ve always hated the saying “my horse doesn’t owe me anything.” Of course they don’t! No horse owes a human anything.

They never asked to be tacked up four or five times a week, ridden around in circles in big sandpits, ferried around the country in a box and then be expected to go out and perform for us.

But my God, Sidney… I owe you the world for giving me this feeling ❤️

For every frustrating ride, every wobble, every setback, every moment I’ve questioned whether we’re getting anywhere, weekends like this make it all worth it.

The rosettes are lovely. But the horse you were this week, and the partnership I felt underneath me, means so much more.

So unbelievably proud of you, Sid. My little buckskin superstar. 🤎✨

Sunday Stressage with Sidney 💃

When he took 20mins to load to go out this morning, I thought we were going to have one of those days! But we persevered and most importantly, kept calm.

Then after nearly losing Sid in the lorry park, trying to put his bridle on, and a tense first test we headed back to the warm up for our second class. A pesky pheasant thought it would be fun to play games and keep jumping out the hedges at us resulting in Sidney spinning and testing my stickability. NGL, I nearly ended up over the fence into the hedge myself!

At this point I wasn’t sure if I wanted to even bother going in for my second test, but with Trailblazers on Wednesday I had a little internal chat with myself and basically said, “get a bloody grip girl!” My second test was not perfect by any means, but there were some glimmers of improvement in our flat work, especially in the canter & that’s all I cared about!

Sidney had a great day out & loaded to come home in less than 5 mins and was so calm whilst I was shutting everything up on the lorry. He’s now enjoying an afternoon in the field (face covered in recovery mash) and a day off tomorrow before my coach rides him Tuesday, as I’m away with work for a couple days. And I’m going to be lying on the sofa for the next few hours before packing up the car 😅

Winner winner, chicken dinner🥇🏆

Oh Sidney boy 🥹 I’m still not over Sundays outing and then I see pictures of this little podge and it gives me all the feels. But yes, we’re on a serious diet & new fitness plan!! 🐷

We’ve been on a journey with his loading and separation issues, so I threw some money at the problem, like we all do, and brought a new horsebox and have spent the last three weeks doing all the training and trying to get him comfortable loading and standing in the box whilst I close everything up etc. we’re still not back to where we were. But with the help of Niall Mitchell we’ve got a little routine down and we loaded to go out, travelled like a dream and then loaded twice when we got to the venue. Yes, TWICE! We had an hour before our class so, as soon as we got there I left Sid on the box to go sign in, got him off the box and let him have a little look around and then loaded him up again before taking him back off to get ready for our first class.

I had no expectations of the day, and was fully prepared to spend hours loading to come back home and just aimed to make it through both tests without having a mental breakdown. Well, we only went and won our first class & fumbled through the second but finished it with a huge smile on my face laughing at our canter transitions and apologising to the judge.

After the class we went back to the warm up to cool down and have a minute before heading back to the box to untack and wash off. Had a little hand graze and headed back to the ramp to load to come home expecting it to take a while. Well, Sidney walked straight on!! And, before the class had finished so we had to wait a few minutes for the last rider to finish their test and get our sheet and rosette 🥰

On cloud 9! Hopefully this is the start of getting back to where we used to be, going out for solo trips and having no loading problems coming back home🤞🏼but horses have a way of humbling us, so no rush to take him back out just yet and another week of loading at home and driving down to the woods for some confidence building this week before we go further afield again ❤️

A little midweek wander through the woods 🌿💛

We’ve been trying to make the most of the cooler evenings this week, and I think Sid definitely appreciates the break from the heat. How’s everyone else and their horses coping? ☀️🐴

Other than becoming slightly… ahem… porky thanks to the never-ending summer grass 🌱😅, Sid has actually been handling the warmer weather really well. I’m so glad I decided to clip him a few weeks ago, it definitely seems to have helped!

Preparations for Trailblazers are now fully underway with just four weeks to go! 🤩 We’ve been having regular lessons and I’m genuinely delighted to see a difference in his flatwork each week. It’s so rewarding when things begin to click.

This Sunday we’re heading off for some unaffiliated dressage. Fingers crossed we avoid any loading dramas and can hold it together in the arena! 🤞 We could definitely do with the outing and a bit of competition practice considering we haven’t left the yard since Somerford at the end of May.

Here’s hoping for a stress-free trip… wish us luck! 🍀💛

Flint & Denbigh RC Camp 2026 at !!

Enjoy a weekend recap in 10seconds. I’m still not fully recovered from a weekend of riding, sleeping in the back of my lorry & the amount of rum I consumed 🥴

I hoped when I asked for pole work, showjumping and cross country lessons, they would be in that order. Mainly to build my own confidence as we’ve not done much jumping this year & Sidney can be a little wild!! But, we were thrown in the deep end with a reverse of our preferred order and started our first lesson out on the XC course Saturday morning. And Sidney ate it up! A rocky start with some run outs and me overthinking every fence, but we got into the swing of it & jumped some brushes I didn’t think we would and even in and out of water!

Roll on to my nemesis, the coloured poles and fillers in a sandbox lesson 🤣 Sidney is the boss of chipping one in and although the instructor said I apparently can see a stride, I needed to ‘let go’ and allow Sid to work it out himself in between the fences and just push when I wanted him to take off. Apparently Sid didn’t like this and decided to take off and land inbetween a filler and a back rail and send me over the fence instead 🤣 standard! Unharmed and determined we carried on and his confidence grew and we got round the course a number of times putting the fences up a little each time.

Sunday morning hit hard, like my hangover and I was happy to only have poles that day. I think Sid was too! And he was on his best behaviour and showed the coach his fancy footwork ❤️

Then, it was time to load and go home. We’ve been on a journey with loading, and unfortunately this was a massive step backwards with his loading. Distracted with everything going on around him, we spent over an hour sneaking up the ramp and edging towards the box. When he finally got on the girls and I started closing everything up and he just freaked out 😢 causing my arm to get stuck between him and the partition and hurting myself. Luckily as soon as the engine started he stood still and travelled home like a dream. But, we’ve had a quiet week at home hacking & back to loading practice again.

We’re off to 🥳 !!!

After my mini breakdown a few weeks ago, we went to yesterday for their unaffiliated dressage for our chance to qualify in their 2nd rounds. And we did it!

Lots to work on now before the champs. But so proud of my boy, handling being at a new venue & the heat 🥵

A couple days off for us both now and a chilled week before we head to on Friday for camp!
