🐴🚗 DEAD SLOW SAVES LIVES 🚗🐴
If you meet a horse on the road, remember the BHS Dead Slow advice:
✅ Slow down to a maximum of 10mph
✅ Be patient
✅ Don't sound your horn or rev your engine
✅ Pass wide, leaving at least 2 metres where possible
✅ Drive slowly away
A horse can be startled in an instant, even the calmest horse can react unexpectedly. By slowing down and giving plenty of space, you can help keep riders, horses and all road users safe.
Horse riders, don't forget that autumn's golden and orange colours can hide your usual yellow high-visibility clothing. Choosing pink high-vis at this time of year can help you stand out more clearly to other road users and improve your visibility when riding out.
If you experience a near miss or road incident whilst out hacking, please remember to report it to the British Horse Society. Every report helps build a clearer picture of road safety issues affecting equestrians
