We love helping older dogs at Ash Farm and everyone looks forwards to Beau’s appointments. Beau looks so cute that he could be a cartoon character but in reality he is a huge Diva. He is a 13 year old Husky crossed with a Golden Retriever. He uses his husky voice to shout at us when we don’t get him in the pool fast enough because he just loves swimming so much. Beau’s owner started bringing him to hydrotherapy to help keep him mobile and comfortable. He’s been with us for nearly a year now and it’s helped him slowly lose some weight, reduced his stiffness and helps him stay active now that he’s not able to do long walks. If you’ve heard us mention our ‘polar bear’ we are talking about gorgeous Beau. 🥰

When you swim your own dog who, hates water, hates being cold, hates being too hot, hates being told what to do.

The stages of him swimming:
1. What is mum doing to me
2. If I swim fast enough, I can get out quicker
3. Head rubs and cuddles are acceptable but I’d rather be on dry land
4. How dare you swim me, but happier in my bear gown.
5. Mum I’m done, I need my cave bed to sleep for the rest of the month.

At the young age of 14, hydrotherapy helps keep Paddy’s joints moving comfortably, allowing him to stay active and enjoy doing what he loves most… chasing squirrels just that little bit faster!

Paddy is also on a weight loss journey. He might not get his summer body this year, but there’s always his winter body! 🤣

Meet the gorgeous Grace 🤍🐾

Grace is one of the softest, sweetest girls you’ll ever meet… but don’t let that innocent face fool you, she’s incredibly clever too!

When Grace first came to us, she wasn’t too keen on swimming. Her owner knew exactly what she was up to though, as she’d happily swum at another hydrotherapy centre before. It quickly became clear that Grace was simply seeing what she could get away with!

Over a year later, not much has changed… except we’ve become very well trained! Between the liver paste, fish treats and plenty of encouragement, Grace definitely has us wrapped around her paw.

Every session starts the same way too. Before her health check, Grace insists on rolling onto her back for tummy rubs and cuddles. It’s become our little routine, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Grace comes to hydrotherapy after tearing a tendon in one of her toes and now also has arthritis affecting her paws. Swimming allows her to exercise without putting excessive strain on her joints, helping to keep her as comfortable, strong and mobile as possible.

Our goal is to keep this lovely girl feeling her best, so she’s ready to get back out doing what she loves most, being a gundog when the season starts!

Bailey attends hydrotherapy to help manage his arthritis, and what a journey it has been!

When he first started, he was a little unsure of the water and, while he may not have been a contender for Best Swimmer, he certainly could have won an award for Best Splasher!

Fast forward to today, and Bailey gets so excited when he arrives for his sessions. Of course, a little liver paste encouragement never hurts! He now swims beautifully with hardly any splashing at all. Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks?

His owners have noticed a real improvement in his daily walks, and even better, he’s been having those wonderful puppy moments again, wanting to play.

Watching Bailey grow in confidence and seeing the positive impact hydrotherapy has had on his mobility and quality of life has been incredibly rewarding. We’re so grateful to be part of his journey and can’t wait to see what he achieves next. 💙

Meet lovely Maddie 💜

Maddie first came to us due to ongoing lameness, but alongside her physical challenges she was also a very nervous girl. Building her confidence and trust has been just as important as her hydrotherapy journey, and we’ve taken things at Maddie’s pace every step of the way.

It’s been incredibly rewarding to watch her grow in confidence and become more comfortable in the hydrotherapy environment. Seeing nervous dogs learn to trust and enjoy their sessions is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

Maddie has also been receiving physiotherapy with the amazing Mobilise Veterinary Physiotherapy, and it’s fantastic to work alongside other professionals to support dogs on their rehabilitation journey.
