Have you met Eilidh, our new Bow Wow puppy?

Of course, no puppy can ever replace the original Bow Wow boy, Corrie. We would have dearly loved his help training this wee tornado, unfortunately tho, he died only a few days before we were due to pick her up :-(

She’s 4months old now and she’s HUGE! Going to be a big girl! But she’s awfy shy…. Despite being noisy!!

So! We need your help!
Eilidh is very suspicious of new people, and we need confident and experienced dog owners willing to say hello! She may have a big body, but she still only has a wee baby brain that needs a wee bit of help now and then to build confidence.

She’s not in every day, but if she is, and the salon isn’t too busy, we’d love to have you meet her and give her a wee treat!

Morning folks!

Pre-Xmas appointment update!

As it stands there in s only 21 appointments left until we close for the Christmas break. 18 of these are in November. I suspect the 3 in December will be taken today by today’s 8 wk cycle clients.

I will create a waiting list but this will be capped at 6 as we very rarely get cancellations in December and we do have alternative options with Briony and Jemma. Please bear in mind, dogs on the waiting list are not guaranteed an appointment.

Due to the high demand in November and December, no shows for an appointment will not be tolerated, with the full cost of the appointment being requested by a payment link. The likelihood will be that we wouldn’t be able to offer another appointment before the new year.

The need to cancel on occasion is inevitable. Please try to give us 48hrs notice to allows to fill the space, or find an appointment swap with another client. We may not be able to help outwith this timescale as administration time is very limited on the run up to Christmas.

One last thing!
There are absolutely no weekend appointments left this year !

Oh my goodness that was an awful lot of doom and gloom for a Saturday morning! I don’t mean it to be. But it is important to manage client expectations as we approach our very busiest time of the year!

Today we had to say a heartbroken goodbye to our beautiful wee salon mascot Corrie.
Unfortunately he had been ill for a while, but took a dramatic turn for the worse over the weekend. Many many thanks to all the lovely staff at Apex Vets, for his care over the years, particularly Glenn who looked after him for all his, almost 14yrs, and gave him the most dignified, peaceful passing today.

Corrie was a kind, gentle wee soul and was brought up in the salon, being quite the salon star. He had a right fancy for wee white fluffy dogs, and gave us many a giggle when he was young! He was so gentle and kind, bringing a calmness to the salon whenever he visited.

Well my wee star, you were loved by so many lovely people and pooches. You will most definitely be missed. Shine bright wee one 🌟

So, it’s hot!! Nobody can deny it

Generally the salon is coping well, the reflective film on the windows and keeping the shutters at half mast has made a big difference this year….. until 3.30ish!

We were discussing amongst us about rescheduling the last dog of the day, but, being so busy already, we’d struggle to find suitable spaces to reschedule to.

Another suggestion was to start earlier. Would be fine for myself and Christine, as, being local and ladies of a certain age, we’re up anyway. Frances has further to come so perhaps not on her days.

So is there anyone out there up for a 7am or 7.30am appointment? Who else is up at that time anyway?

Unfortunately the gas engineers, who are currently working in our street, have found it necessary to disconnect the gas supply to the street to facilitate their work tomorrow.

Due to this we will be closed on Wednesday.
Please accept our apologies.

Back in on Thursday :-)

High Temperatures v’s Grooming Salon

Excessive heat has an affect on salon activities.
Our priority is, and always will be, the safety of the dogs in our care. We monitor very closely for heat stress during the grooming process. On occasion we may need to stop what we’re doing to either rest them, or send them home depending on how they are coping. On other occasions, where the dog is elderly or has medical issues we may need to postpone the groom till a cooler day.
This is not to get us home early to get into our bikinis and enjoy the sunshine! Purely down to the welfare of your lovely pets.

Drying and prepping is also an issue. We can’t use heat on the dryers or have the dogs standing longer than they need to, even under a cool dryer, as this will naturally heat up the longer it is on. So we may not be able to fluff dry coats as well as we do normally. Your dog may even feel a wee bit damp in some area: under ears etc.

Please bear in mind, laziness of a groomer is NEVER the issue. Safety is.

Attached is a poster showing signs of heat stress. Please be vigilant and if ever concerned, contact your vet asap
